Guest guest
Dear Colleagues, Save the Children UK, Office for South and Central Asia Region is organizing a regional workshop on Theatre for Development (TfD) and Sexuality in Nagarkot, Nepal from the 18th to the 26th of March 2002. We have been using TfD, which promotes greater involvement of the participants, the groups or community that is addressed in the whole process of identification of issues, and responding to the issues identified in its work on sexual health and HIV/AIDS in countries of South and Central Asia. Participatory methodologies have increasingly been used in work on HIV/AIDS. The limitations of information and providing message in bringing about behavior change to reduce risk of HIV infection is well known, information does not automatically translate to behavior change. This dynamic process that TfD entails stimulates thinking, debate and discussion in issues around sex or sexuality, questioning practices that increase risk or harm among the groups or communities addressed. We have seen that the resulting interventions are culturally and contextually appropriate in addressing these issues, it brings about community ownership and involvement. We have very limited seats open to external participants for the first phase of the workshop from the 18th to the 21st of March 2002 open to development professionals working on issues around sexual health, HIV/AIDS, gender and related issues using participatory tools. Persons interested have to bear their own cost for to and fro flights to Kathmandu, accommodation and cost for food (based on actuals). There are no additional participation fees, however. Please write at the earliest to Vijay Rajkumar, vijay@... for details. We will however reserve the right to select participants (as we have limited seats). Best regards, Vijay Rajkumar, Save the Children (UK), Office for South and Central Asia Region P O Box 5850 Kupondol, Kathmandu, Nepal Tel: 977-1-527152, 523924 Fax: 977-1-527266 E-mail vijay@...
