Guest guest
Montyman's Mom, How did Montyman react at first to the horse riding therapy? Was he afraid or did he just take to it? What techniques can they use for kids who are afraid? I'm wondering because I'm positive Brook would be terrified. He hates carousels and swings (he used to love swings, but his school removed them from the playground and now he won't swing anymore because he's not used to it) plus he hates having his feet off of the ground. Guest guest
Hi Marisa! The first time I took Montyman to horse therapy, he climed on with a little hesitation, and was a little timid. But he adjusted well by the second ride. He laughed all the way home that first day, I could see his little mind reliving the event, and he always loved it. The three years we rode, I never saw any of the kids be afraid. It's like they have a bond with the horses from the get go. Im sure there are children who are afraid, but I never saw any there! Montyman does not like carousels or swings either! This is all together different, and Brook will walk up to the horse on a platform, so he wont feel like his feet are off the ground, cause he will have them in stirrups. Try it, what have you got to lose? If he hates it, he doesnt have to go back. My bet is he will love it!!! Donna Montyman's Mom
Guest guest
Donna, That's encouraging. I'll try to look into it. I think there is a program not to far from here that I heard about a few years ago. I still don't think he will like it, but we could still check it out. Who knows? Guest guest
Marisa, The horse clinic helped Montyman physically a LOT! His upper torso, muscle tone, etc....even his gait changed.....but I am telling you, it woke him up mentally, even more! I saw that with so many of the kids! There is an old cowboy saying, " The outside of a horse is good for the inside of a man! " and for Montyman, it was true! It is such a controlled environment, I just bet your son will love it!!! Keep me posted! Donna, Montyman's Mom
Guest guest
Donna, When school starts Aug 27th I am going to ask Brook's teacher, she knows about a lot of programs and I have a few other places around here that I can call too to find out more about it. Guest guest
Thanks, Terry...sometimes when I am bottoming out, I have to go away and let things run their course for my spirit to heal itself. Turtle taught me that lesson and it's helped me through many a hard time. And yes, with your husband being a horseman, we would know many of the same people from the years we wintered in New Orleans. One year it got cold up north early and we headed down to New Orleans and had a month before the Fairgrounds opened so worked at Jefferson Park...what a jip track that is/was. (I left the track in '84 so have lost track with changed names and closed tracks.) But I loved my years on the track...I love horses. But like you said, it's a hard life. I'm really impressed that at your ages, you and your husband are still able to manage. But horses are a labor of love. My heart goes out to you having to deal with awful headaches. When I was younger I used to get migraines. When you have a headache there is no escaping it...you can't move a finger without it hurting your head. Sure wish I could offer you something that could help...accupuncture is always my ace up my sleeve. I've learned to stay away from neurologists. Years ago my doctor sent me to one who " could anyone's headaches " He took my history including the prescriptions I was on and put me on some drug. Within a week I was climbing the walls and both my doctor and the neurologist said I was withdrawing from my migraine meds...but I knew different. Went to a pharmacist with the meds I was on and lo and behold...the drug he put me on clashed with something else I was on and my nerves were inflammed. That was the last time I went to a neurologist...I turned to traditional chinese medicine and found what I needed there. You said the Dorignac's farm " was " not far from you...does that mean they are no longer in the racing business? As I recall, they also owned a chain of grocery stores. But they were big in racing in Louisiana and Chicago. In fact, my first job on the racetrack was working for them at Arlington Park. That's interesting that your headaches have eased some since doing and kicking the oxy...must have altered your physiology in some way. My, time for my shot so I guess I should take care of business. I try to do it about the same time each week...don't know if that makes a difference or not, but it's become habit. Blessings Tatezi horses Tatezi, I can't believe it is such a small world, that you lived and worked right here for so long. ....He loves it, but we are getting old. He is almost 65 and I am almost 60, and the work is hard, ....It is very hard sometimes. He knows all the names you mentioned, especially the Dorignacs. Their farm was not far from here, about 15 miles, I guess. I have been off of treatment for 2 years, but the terrible headaches continued, just like on treatment. I have been to accupuncture, reflexology, ...went to two neurologists and the last one gave me the oxy, telling me it would be no problem to wean myself off. I had joint problems, swelling and pain and had to get off. ... Surprisingly my headaches are not so bad.

Guest guest
Terry, Maybe when you get back to your art, through that you can find a sense of peace in the loss of your son. In grief support groups, art is an important piece. My mother did grief counseling and support groups for 5 years before she reached acceptance of the loss of my dad and was able to start living life again. Grief is just an awful emotion. With my volunterring with the elderly, I've attended many seminars on grief management. Dorignac...we worked with Dorignac and I believe he was a son of the old man...but my memory sure isn't what it was. It must be very inconvenient to always have problems with medications when you have things that need treatment. Have you ever tried meditation for your headaches? I'm sure that during a headache you would never be able to get into a meditative state, but maybe if at other times you could try it, it might ease the intensity of the headaches. When I battled migraines I tried many things. First I tried progressive relaxation and then I did biofeedback training. The key with migraines is to be able to lower you body temperature...but I was never able to do cold baths or showers. Tried yoga and tai chi. I don't know what ended my migraines...over the years they occured less often until I haven't had one for years. But I do still fight tension headaches. I will get a huge knot of muscles at the base of my skull at my neck. They hurt...can't even touch them. Discovered a homepathic analgesic and anti-inflammation cream and sublingual pills called Traumeel. The main ingrediant in it is the herb Arnica Montana. The first time I tried it, the knot in my neck was so bad I couldn't even turn my head. Went to the homeopatic apothecary and they turned me on to both the cream and the sublingual tablets. I did two tablets and rubbed the cream on my neck right away and within an hour things started to subside. I now keep the Traumeet ointment everywhere...in the office, in my backpack, next to my chair and in my bedside table. What is Storm Day's breeding? I don't know if I'll end up with any bad sides after treatment. I've had problems the last couple months...first my platelets nose dived followed by a big drop in RBCs and awful anemia. And the Riba Rage...which to me is the worst part because I can't stand myself when I have that horrible, negative ugliness in my spirit. We'll see how things go....at 23 weeks I was undetectable (I'm a 1b). They say they test at the end of treatment and again at 6 months, but don't do a 1 year post treatment test which I would think would be important. But once treatment is over I hope to save some money and relocate. I'd like to end up in the Denver area...actually I'd like to end up in the mountains. Blessings Tatezi horses My husband bought a share in the new stallion, Storm Day, and we have bred most of our mares to him this year. Keeping our fingers crossed that his babies will run well down the line. ... I am so glad you are almost finished treatment, and pray it doesn't leave you with any side effects you can't get rid of, and most important your virus is undetectable. Guest guest
I'm looking forward to seeing pictures of your horses and your spread. Do you breed so the foals are born after January 1st. Since all horses have their birthdays on the 1st, the farms we worked at were very careful to breed so they were born after the 1st. Shucks, if a horse is born on December 31st, the next day they are considered a year old. Makes a world of difference in the racing world. So glad you are starting to feel better...takes a while to get all that shit out of your system. Tatezi I am still going to post some pictures of our horses and grounds. ... We have two more mares to foal. ...Thank God, I am finally starting to feel more like myself. Not 100%, but getting there. Terry
