Guest guest
HI Also investigate a low thyroid. That can cause hair loss and I have always had hair loss after each of my babies and in my case it was from low thyroid. ~Kerin~ Mom of Four~ *When you tend a rose, my lad, A thistle cannot grow*
Guest guest
Hi Laurie - I don't know if this would be applicable since your mother is dealing with menopause - however, I know that taking a zinc supplement can help with hair loss. Just after my wedding- after returning from my honeymoon I noticed a significant amount of hair falling out and spoke with my doctor who suggested zinc - I noticed a difference about 6 weeks later. Also do a little research at the book store -- there is a wealth of informative books out there. Check on a book by Northrop dealing with Menopause I bet you'll find something in that book addressing hair loss. Guest guest
I am not sure exactly *why* the hair loss happens with a low or underactive thyroid, but it does, along with dry skin, fatigue, aches and pains and I am sure other symptoms as well. I always lose hair after having babies and this time around I had a blood test done to check my thyroid levels and my thyroid was low, I also had all of the symptoms I mentioned above of low thyroid. My Naturepath put me on a tincture (which gave me horrible heartburn and so I stopped it) and a glandular supplement for thyroid which has worked well. My hair isn't falling and I have more energy and feel better.
