Guest guest
Pam, I have been reading about too much vitamin C lowers copper levels and creating other health problems. But if I am low on V -C I won't over dose. See how my brain works. So I am starting to take 1 tsp of V-C crystals in orange juice twice a day. 1/4 of a teaspoon is what is recommended. Guest guest
Thanks everyone for the vitam c info. I think keeping a journal or at least some data is a great idea.
Guest guest
: My 12 year old has not be diagnosed with CMT and currently shows no signs but he almost craves orange juice--maybe his subconscience is trying to help too. I don't quite know if Vit C will help with type 2 but I also like the OJ and drink much. Sharon
Guest guest
Sharon, I think if Vit C can help one form of CMT it can help the others.
Guest guest
: As I thought more about it the other day, I came to the same conclusion! And even if it doesn't mentally it helps me feel better because i feel that I am taking care of my self in a more positive manner. Thanks for your response. Guest guest
I'm definitely feeling stronger. I feel like I'm flexing my feet better than ever . . . which is still not great but definitely better. I feel as though I'm not having to be as careful when I walk . . . better stability. Overall, what I can say is that I feel stronger.
Guest guest
Yeah ! I feel stronger and have better balance. My toes can still move. ( before they couldn't) . Every night I go to bed thinking that I will wake up back to where I was a week ago. But I keep getting stronger! It's true I am in love with vitamin C ! Guest guest
. . . New development . . . My left foot (which is stronger than the right) is now able to walk with a small amount of heel-toe!!!!! OK, I have NEVER been able to do that in my entire life. It's small but definite! The excitement builds . . . but still cautious like you are. ; )
Guest guest
, What type of Vit C are you taking, how much are you taking, and how long have you been taking it? Thanks!
Guest guest
, I went to my herbalist who tested me for quantity and type to take. I am taking a fat soluble version that is supposed to stay in your system instead of the water soluble version that goes right through you if you don't use it at the time you take it. Therefore, I'm supposedly getting the full amount of what I'm taking instead of just a portion of it. This is why I should get a maximum benefit without taking so much. I take 4000 mg a day. I have to take it with a little fat so I take half in the morning with breakfast and half with dinner. As of today, I find that I can use my heels for a little balance as opposed to needing to put all my weight on the balls of my feet!!!! Everyday is a journey! ; ) Good luck! Guest guest
As for how long . . . since March 26th . . . just under 2 weeks!! Oh, I'm taking Ascorbyl Palmitate from Olympian Labs
Guest guest
I take 10,000 milligrams through out the day. I take 3 in the morning then 3 at noon and 3 at bedtime. I take 2 time release at night and 2 regular.
Guest guest
, My left is the weakest side . That's the side I had to have a brace on. I can now go without the muller ankle brace. I still have drop foot but its back to 7 years ago. I can also go without shoes in the house. Cautiously, I still think something bad will happen. Guest guest
, Could you please tell the group again how much Vitamin C you're taking? I think I missed it somewhere. Thanks. K.

Guest guest
and , I am wondering how long you guys took the vitamin c before you started to feel a difference? PAM
Guest guest
, My boyfriend has given me strong cautions today. I'm organizing something big for CMT in the fall . . . I'll break news about that in the next few weeks . .. . but he cautioned me to get my little butt back to the MDA clinic so there is documentation as to my progression. He noted that everyday I tell him something good and if they can't track it medically than the info may not help anyone else. Just an FYI!! Man, I hate it when he is right!! hee hee ; )
Guest guest
Pam, I've been taking it for just under 2 weeks. I have to say that I was tested and found to respond best to fat soluble ascorbic acid at 4000 mg a day. I didn't figure it out on my own. I'm not sure the method used . . . I'm just glad it seems to be working for both of us. ; ) I know that I felt something different just a few days after I started. I felt the burning in my feet that I used to feel all the time . . . I wondered if that meant that the nerves were reawakening. I can't say if they were or not, but I can say I'm noting marked improvements just about every day. Oh, and by the way, my energy is improved as well.
Guest guest
Yes, I do have CMT 1A. But I'm thinkin' vitamin C is good for everyone anyway . . . so give it a try! ; )
Guest guest
Hi , My type has never been tested. On the EMG I had years ago. It showed low to very low functioning nerves. I also had a dead nerve. My doctor said that my other nerves were working harder to make up for the dead one. I have assumed it was type 1 A but who knows? Guest guest
nicole, I am so happy for the both of you. I think of you guys(jenny too) every morning and hope that each day brings more and more good news for you. I started vit c a few days ago but dont feel any different yet. I am only really affected in my left side although both of my ankles are weak. I really have had no symptoms until about my 30th birthday.I am now 35 and the progression scares me. My balance is shot too. I will let you know if I have any success with vitam c. I am keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks for the info, Pam
Guest guest
Pam, Thanks for you thoughts. I hope the same for you. Every day it seems that I feel stronger. Give it a little bit of time before you get disheartened. Remember, everyone has different things going on because of the CMT, so there can't be a hard and fast rule as to how fast the Vitamin C is supposed to work. : ) Keep us posted!
