Guest guest
Yes, nothing but the Dt and the polio was mandated.. You could still get the Salk vaccine for polio at the time.. The oral was a " convenience " due to the " no paid of injection " quality. The MMR was not perfected until the late '70's. Most mother were urged to vaccinate their children for the Rubella due to the fact that if a pregnant mother came into contact with their infected child that she could indeed aquire the disease and her baby would be retarded. It was not stated to these mothers that this would make their daughter set up fo that very same thing when they were pregnant in the future... Most mothers did not know that it was only an issue of danger in the first trimester of the pregnancies either... Mothers knew that Rubella was often so mild that the baby or child would just seem cranky and out of sorts for a few hours, break into a very mild pinkish rash on the their bellies and chest, maybe the back and the neck and thighs. Their motivation was protection of others and not her own child. Recently when my son, had the bout of Mumps, I was interested in asking everyone if they had this disease as a child. I spoke with with my mother about this because would be around my sisters at some point.. I asked if she vaccinated them for the measles and the mumps.. " Oh, no. Only for Rubella. I was not interesting in spreading this disease to a pregnant woman, but I felt that measles and mumps were not danger to these women. I believe that these are disease that they should have. And besides we were told at the time that the Rubella vaccine would be like the natural immunity and last for their entire lives.. We did not realize that they were wrong. But, no. I wanted all of you to have the mumps and the measles. These are good disease to have, get over with them and then be healthier for the experience " , was her statement to me. I certainly was shocked.. My mother believes in vaccines and was upset with me because I did not vaccinate my youngest one. She was always for vaccines even when they were seeming to be damaging my as a baby.. They just could not believe that the vaccine were the reasons that he did not speak until over the age of 2 years, or that his learning problems were related to any of this as he grew and entered school. I believe that my mother just felt that it was some sort of genetic problem with my husbands " side of the family " ... That type if thing... Just thought I'd share..
