Guest guest
I know it's not always easy to keep on top of corporate abuses of the entities we patronize but Wal Mart's record is not a good one and they just showed up as one of the Ten Worst Corporations for the following... <<Wal-Mart - for patronizing sweatshops abroad and illegal anti-union activity that has resulted in more than a dozen complaints from the National Labor Relations Board just since Labor Day.>> I figured people who don't know would want to know this in order to conduct responsible shopping. The full list (and a more in-depth profile of WalMart in particular, as well as the others) is here at http://www.essential.org/monitor/. Happy New Year. Guest guest
Or, for us regular folks, a good place to find most everything under one roof and perhaps save a little money and time... jp > wal-mart: the 4th element of the axis of evil. the pits of american > greedscum. Guest guest
I do not shop at Walmart anymore and I gave up my membership to Sam's. The final straw was not how they rip off taxpayers by getting concessions and not paying their fair share of taxes or their disgraceful behavior of their employees (they actually tell them how to apply for welfare benefits on the back of their pay stubs) or the endless lawsuits proving they discriminate or the intentional intimidation of their suppliers but when Walmart decided to sue a former employee it finally made me decide never to step foot in their stores again. A former employee who was one of the approximate 30% who have health insurance through Walmart was in a terrible accident and is now living as an invalid who needs 24/7 care. Her husband works three jobs to pay for her care and medication. After suing the insurance company of the semi that side swiped her she received a settlement of $417,000. Now here comes the richest family in the world with their greedy hands out and they sue this poor woman for $470,000 for medical expenses paid on her behalf. And because approximately 80% of our judges have been appointed by corporate friendly politicians it becomes law that the health insurance companies can go after victims and not the other insurance companies. And I don't care that it is legal (this women just like the rest of us paid her premiums) it is wrong no matter which way you slice the pie. My rant my opinion. I am paraphrasing here. Guest guest
After Sam Walton died, the soul of Wal Mart, the company has gone downhill. jp >I do not shop at Walmart anymore and I gave up my membership to Sam's. > The final straw was not how they rip off taxpayers by getting > concessions and not paying their fair share of taxes or their > disgraceful behavior of their employees (they actually tell them how to > apply for welfare benefits on the back of their pay stubs) or the > endless lawsuits proving they discriminate or the intentional > intimidation of their suppliers but when Walmart decided to sue a > former employee it finally made me decide never to step foot in their > stores again. > > A former employee who was one of the approximate 30% who have health > insurance through Walmart was in a terrible accident and is now living > as an invalid who needs 24/7 care. Guest guest
This is why I shop at Costco. Our local small paper did an article comparing Sam's and Costco several years ago. I've been a member of Costco ever since. Kathy
