Our doctor has being giving Topotecan ( Hycamtin ) to my wife Cheryl as a

treatment for Ext. SCLC. She has recieved 8 sessions with hair loss and

alittle sleepy as the only side effects. Topotecan is a non-toxin. She will

be on this indefinitly as it has caused the tumors to shrink in her lung and

liver. Her colasped lung has re-opened.....boy...the doctors are suprised.

This treatment was made available as a 2nd line of treatment in May ( I think

).

Prior to this treatment she had 6 sessions of carboplatin /

Etoposide...which shrunk

all tumors. She went without chemo for 5 weeks after her 1 st treatment

ended, but the cancer spread rapidly. It took 3 session of the Topotecan to

cause the tumors to start to shrink again.

She did take vitamins during chemo...which IMO, prevented the chemo from

working the best it could. But that's just a personal opinion. We now take

vitamins

days 15-21 of her 21 day treatment cycle.

What's the cause for the great response to treatment? No-one knows. This

treatment is fairly new. Our doctor keeps notes on what Cheryl takes.

Would eating better help her? should she quit posioning her body with chemo?

I will answer it this way....and this is from my wifes case only.....

She would be dead now, BUT the chemo has given us time to search for hope.

Who knows how much time?? All I know it has given us time together that we

would have never had.....

God Bless!

Steve & Cheryl
