Guest guest
-- The " boy " that Joe Peppe referred to who died, was actually a young man, 18, names Gelsinger, who indeed died of an experimental gene therapy, for a Urea Cycle Disorder. He would have died of the disorder anyway, without the experiment. They were still trying to find the right dosage. His parents, friends, and others with the disease, are obviously saddened, but wish the research in gene therapy to go on, so ultimately others can be saved. What died of was NOT the PCA Vaccine being discussed in these posts, or anything to do with prostate cancer. Other than the fact that they are both gene therapies they are not related. By the way, died in September, not last week. Rosy

Guest guest
Dear Cancercure group, If you read how they killed the boy you will also conclude it was the gene therapy that killed him not the type of cancer that killed him. Guest guest
Yes and he was not KILLED. During an interview the father agreed the research trial was all that was left. The family had hoped the therapy would have been more successful. The team of reseachers had done all that was possible. Someone find the total story and quote correctly the findings. Guest guest
Sorry, I am very much for research and every time something like this happens it adds more regulations. Causes all the Government agencies to put out propaganda about improper procedures and putting down any advancement. After my research on cancer and trials do I bring lawsuits against the vitamin companies, food growers and etc? Go to http://newscenter.about.com/health/1999/12/13/health/0000-0025-reuters.health.html www.webmd.lycos.com/headlines/1/10 -Search the urls. Norvil Sims wrote: Yes and he was not KILLED. Guest guest
Joe, Knock it off. This was not cancer treatment but research to develop a cure for cancer. If you don't want such research to take place perhaps you should take yourself to someplace else as I, and the majority of us on the list do. I honor the boy who died. He and his parents knew there was a risk and took it anyway. I also honor the researchers who suppressed their own feelings about subjecting others to the risk, perhaps only for monitary reasons but still doing what must be done. There IS the matter of drug companies suppressing natural cures that may compete with them but that is a completely different subject. Please don't post your personal negative opinions. They are off the subject of this list and we don't want to hear them. Guest guest
The following is a short quote from the article re: PCa vaccine: " Within four weeks of vaccination, the researchers were able to detect circulation of immune cells throughout the bloodstream. Patients' B-cells produced antibodies against prostate cells, and their T-cells directly attacked the tumor, the researchers report. Once re-educated to see prostate cells as foreign bodies, antigens on the cells' surface serve as red flags to the immune system, causing it to seek out and destroy them. " Looking further into the matter at the s Hopkins web site, it blew my mind to learn that cancer cells (PCa at least), devilish things that they are, have the ability to mask themselves so that the immune system does not recognize them as a problem. This means that AFTER I have the disease, if I end up with the stongest immune system on the planet, it will not kill the cancer cells. On the other hand, from a prevention standpoint, building the immune system is a must. norvil sims <nwsim-@...> wrote: original article:cures for cancer/?start=4669 > Sorry, I am very much for research and every time something like this happens it adds > more regulations.
