Guest guest
Hi. I truly believe that the Egoscue method of pain relief for any type of joint or back pain should be tried before going the surgery route. It certainly won't make the situation worse and it could prove to be all you need to do, rather than surgery. My friend was a massage therapist and had to quit working because of her wrist. She was telling me that her bone had deteriorated and she needed surgery. I told her to try Egoscue and she said " oh you don't understand. I know muscles and this has nothing to do with muscles. This is the actual wrist bone deteriorating. And it is getting worse. I saw the xrays from 6 months ago and even I can see how much worse it has gotten. No stretches are going to help that " . I shrugged. Not my problem. A few days later she called me back and asked about the Egoscue book. I asked why and she said that the surgery was going to cost $15,000 and her insurance wasn't going to pay for it and she didn't have the money to pay for it. So she was desperate to try anything. I gave her my book and also told her that she could write to www.egoscue.com and ask them if they thought the stretches would help. The reason I figured it would help was because there was a story in the book that spoke of a famous football player with this same problem. only he had the surgery and still had the pain. He went to the Egoscue clinic in CA and asked for help. Pete told him he couldn't do anything about the piece of bone they had taken out but that he could get him out of pain. And he did. my friend called me back the next day, all excited, because she said that Egoscue had written her back already and told her that yes, they felt the stretches would help her and gave her the address of an Egoscue clinic an hour away. So my friend went, spent almost 3 hours there while they showed her the exercises (which she said were all in the book, but she was happy to see them done in real life) and that she had 50% less pain upon leaving the clinic. The clinic was run by a husband and wife team who had been in a car wreck. The husband came out pretty good after the surgery but the wife was always still in pain so they went to the CA original clinic, got immediate relief, were so impressed that they took the course and opened their own clinic. My friend, after just a few weeks (2 or 3, can't remember) went back to massage work. She later told me that she had always had slight scoliosis as a child and that the stretches had straightened her spine out! She said her chiropractor could not believe what happened to her spine, and that her new doctor told her that he had never seen a woman of her age (63 at the time) have such a straight spine. Plus, she told me that she had never mentioned her arthritis. Every morning she would have to literally roll out of bed and crip her way to the shower so that she could spend 20 minutes under hot water to loosen everything up so that she could go do the rest of the day. She said that after the 2 weeks of Egoscue stretches she can just bounce out of bed in the morning and get to work. A lady that was at an Egoscue talk was picked out of the audience for a demonstration. She said that she was scheduled for knee surgery in 2 months and that her knee hurt with every step she took. If she was just sitting it was ok, but when she walked it was very painful. So the speaker had her come up to the front of the room, put her arms behind her neck and lock her fingers together, and he told her to walk around the room. As she walked he continued talking. I watched her face rather than the speaker and I could just see her eyes getting bigger and bigger. When she got back to the front and stopped he told her " I didn't tell you to stop. Keep going " . She was so surprised she just nodded her head and walked around the room again. When she got back to the front he told her to stop. He asked her how her knee was. She said it had not hurt once, not with one step. He said " of course not. You have been using the wrong muscles to hold the knee in place. Now, you can't walk around from now on with your hands behind your head, but with the correct stretches your body will relearn to use the right muscles and you won't have any more problems and can cancel your surgery " . There are many such stories is the Pain Free book by Pete Egoscue. The " exercises " are nothing more than stretches, which you do every morning. When you start out it can take up to 45 minutes to release the muscles. Once your body gets use to it you can usually cut it down to 10 minutes. People have told me " I don't have 45 minutes a day for this " . I say " well, stay in pain then " . :-) I'm not the one in pain, but if I was, I'd certainly be doing these simple stretches. My friend's daughter now does Egoscue, Her chircopractor was so impressed by her improvement that he wants her to take Egoscue traning and go and work for him! My friend was so impressed with her experience that she took the online training and has become an Egoscue practitioner! She said that when she retires she can't just practice massage in other states because she only has a license for Texas, but with Egoscue, because it is not licensed, she can take it anywhere. I hope you try it out before you have surgery. Just have someone watch you so that they can match your poses up with the photos in the book. The book is a paperback and most stores carry it, but if not they can order it for you. It has step-by-step photos. It explains everything, and why the stretches work. If you have any other questions just ask. samala, On Fri, Apr 4, 2008 at 10:50 AM, ballady4 <ballady4@...> wrote: > Hi , > > I couldn't find any messages from you in order to email.
