Guest guest
Hi Fellow listmates. I am very sadly having to leave Little Friends In- Home Support Program (because they are having to shut their doors for in-home respite only), given the changes in the way the state handles the child waiver program. A REALLY BIG QUESTION: 1) Does anyone use Clearbrook agency out of Arlington Heights (they service many surrounding counties- DuPage being the one I reside in)? Any positives or negatives would be VERY MUCH APPRECIATED (I really should be making a determination within a few days. I turn to you all for support- as I have been with Little Friends for about 10 years and am now a born again rookie at these decisions. I realize many on this list are using the adult waiver- but I am mainly wondering at this point- my son is 15 yo, about goods and bads with this agency only, and in regards to the childrens In-Home support state waiver. Guest guest
Hi Diane, My daughter, Angel, receives these services from Clearbrook. Her support living assistant is excellent. It did take quite a while to find staff for her. By the way, the Clearbrook brochure for this program has a photo of Angel and myself on it! Diane S <swedegrl@...> wrote: Hi Fellow listmates. Guest guest
And on Clearbrook, aren't they the ones that opened the 'autism home' through a parent consortium/agency collaboration that, as memory serves, had only 4 individuals with ASD and included staff with a background in behavioral/communication expertise? If this is the group I'm remembering, I attended a panel presentation of theirs that included their Executive Director, several staff, and at least one of the women who does a LOT of fundraising to get the home even opened. They were estimating that after current state/federal reimbursements, they'd be operating at about a 90K/year deficit, which they planned to make up through foundation gifts. I'm not sure where it stands right now, but recall being very impressed. I realize that's not what you were asking about directly, Diane, but I have to believe that quality emanates from the person at the top of the organization, and this ED was really interesting. Guest guest
I do enjoy reading and contributing to this listserve. Great resource for parents AND professionals! Anyway, back to your questions about Clearbrook- I am a service facilitator with the Home-based program at Clearbrook but only with the the adults. While I do think it is important to get feedback from other families who have used these services, if you want to also talk to the Director of the program, her name is Hollis Gorrie and she can be reached at 847-870-7711. Good luck and I am sure you will find an agency who can best serve your families needs. -- Lew, Service Facilitator Clearbrook lisamlew@... phone/fax 847-681-1357

Guest guest
The first support worker (who did not work out at all) took about six months to find. I don't recall how long it took for her replacement (who has been with us for 2 1/2 years. My husband refers to her as our other 'kid'). Since Clearbrook covers a large area, the look for staff in your area. They then put them through a training program. Diane S <swedegrl@...> wrote: Thank you so much for your response. Guest guest
I think it depends on if you want to be the employer and have Clearbrook be the service facilitator or if you want Clearbrook to be the employer. I had both experiences with them. When our son received the funding I asked them to be the employer and it took more than 3 months for them to find someone and she was very young and inexperienced but I kept her for a month hoping she would eventually learn. When we decided to switch to being the employer I had the feeling that this was not something they were accustomed to. I waited 2 months and kept calling ACCES* to find out what was going on as I had not received my FEIN number or timesheets. It turns out that Clearbrook gave me incomplete paperwork to fill out and that some of the forms they did give me were from 2005 and we needed to fill out everything again on 2007 forms. So for us it was 6 months of funding we couldn't use before we switched to Ray Graham and got it all straightened out. Guest guest
I guess my experience with Glenkirk was a real good one, then. We got our award letter at the very end of December and we started working with Glenkirk at the very beginning of January and we were up and running and using Noah's funding by late January! My husband is the employer and we have myself and three other employees. We are losing one employee and currently signing up at least two if not three more. We are paying a higher rate than most other direct care staff positions ($15-$17 per hour) My son gets great quality staff, needless to say. I would rather have less hours covered and know that he is safe and able to grow and develop his skills with people who are competent, speak the language, and can do more than just babysitting.
