CILA vs. ICF's

Thanks I just wanted everyone to understand that there is a big difference

between ICFs and CILA and although the CILAs aren't perfect they are a thousand

times better that what was available before. Which is thanks to all the hardwork

and fighting thats being done by parents with special needs kids. I only wish I

could attend all these functions and do more than just write my legislators but

unfortunately my current situation does not allow for more involvement. Maybe

later. For now I write letters whenever you all or Family Support Network sends

out the request. It does make me feel that I am part of the fight for better

services.

By the way happy birthday. I'll be celebrating my 14th anniversary of my 39th

birthday on Monday.

Enjoy the YOUNG birthday!!! It sounds like you are a great advocate...It is

wonderful that you do what you can to advocate.

AND yes...you are right...CILA is am improvement over many past housing models.

What I like people to be thinking about is what does your son or daughter really

want, what do you think is best for them, and then we need to try to move the

system toward self-directed choice, not trying to fit every person into a

" slot " , " bed " or " model " . Our children are individuals and their needs vary

from one another and certainly so do their hopes, dreams and desires. I don't

think we, as parents and advocates and our children as consumers and advocates

should ever have to settle or be content with someone else's notion of what is

right for them.

I agree we can't expect each individual to fit into one type of scenario that is

why we need to all allow for each individuals differences and needs. Thanks.
