Guest guest
Hi, Yes you can have the Pain Pump and the SCS at the same time that is what my doctor wants me to do.I am going to talk to him today June 12,2008 about it. I have been on so many medications it is sickening. Right now I am on Kadian and Vicodin for break thru pain, along with Topamax, Cymbalta and Baclofen and the Medtronic Stimulutor and I still am in a great amount of pain. My doctor has been bugging me for about 6 months now and I have been studying it on the intert now and I think I am going to go through the trail it will mean a hospital stay for the trail but is if means a clearer head and less meds going though my liver and less pain I will try anything. I am only 43 years old and I plan on living alot longer. They already have my trail setup if i say yes it will be on June 23, 2008 But I will update you guys more after my appointment this afternoon. I don't believe constant pain should ever be put in the catagory of being lazy, don't be so hard on yourself. Your wife doesn't understand because she's never been in constant, chronic pain, it's so hard for them to know how you feel if they haven't been there. Great news about how the Lyrica is helping you, wonderful. I don't think your wife would want to see you in more pain and that's probably what would happen if you stopped your meds, but that's up to you and your doctor. You can have the pain pump and the SCS at the same time and maybe it's something you could research and look into. And you're lucky that your pain doctor does do them, many don't. My pain doctor doesn't do pain pumps so if I need one I'll have to go to another doctor and there's no other one in my town. I've been dealing with my pain for over 10 years. My spine looked like an " L " shaped spine and it wasn't any better after a fusion. Finally the fusion failed and here I am with the SCS, it does some good but not a lot. I'm thankful for small steps anyway. Have you looked up any info on the pump yet? Maybe it will help you, I hope you do get some relief. Enjoy your vacation and try to relax, peace and relaxation is healing too. And remember, no one knows how you feel as good as you do, they haven't walked in your shoes... Keep up the good work, this is a good thing you've started here. Ginny

Guest guest
Mike, First off, just because you are afraid to bend the wrong way or walk too much does not make you lazy. I have always felt that in our society it is easier on women who beome handicapped than on men. Our society thinks nothing of a woman who stays home while her spouse works but Heaven forbid the male stay home while the wife works. Part of this problem is the man himself. He feels he is not a real man if he stays home while his wife works. Believe me, most women know that it takes a lot more than a man working to make a real man. A real man tries his best and does what he is capable of. He is concerned about his children and takes an active interest in what is going on in their lives. He listens to his wife and really hears her. He tries to make her life easier. He makes sure that their wives life would not be easier if they weren't in the picture. Remember, a single mom would not only have to work but then come home and do the laundry, the cooking and the cleaning herself. You did not ask for this injury. You did not intentionally become the person that you are now. Your marriage vows said in SICKNESS and in health. You have nothing to feel guilty about this wasn't your fault. Your wife isn't the only one who wishes that you were that big, strapping man you were a few years ago. As for your spelling, I don't have any problems reading your posts. I have a g'son who is in his 3rd year of college and I have all kinds of problems trying to read a simple paragraph he writes. I just pray that his education earns him a job with a secretary. From what I havw learned of you, you are doing a great job with this group, you are concerned about the way your problem affect your wife, you are involved with your sons and in my eyes at least you are more than a real man. I do think your wife is right about your oral meds affecting your judgeent. With a pump the meds go to where your pain is rather than throughout your blood stream and therefore you need a lower dose of meds. Also, there are no movement restrictions with the pump.
