Guest guest
I had to laugh when I read your email. I felt the same way. When I went to have my temp removed, I told them they couldn't take it out!!!! Of course, they have to take it our before scar tissue starts growing over it, but they told me a lot of people say that to them!!! I got lucky and had my temp removed on a Monday and the perm on that Friday. But I did miss it that week (but it was nice to take a shower again!!!). Take Care, B. in TEXAS Update Drs Visit Hi Gang Back from the drs visit. I talked to him about the issues I had last night. He felt like the leads had moved and sure enough they had. He said they were so loose when he took off the dressing he was suprised that it had held up as long as it had. So now I am waiting to get scheduled for the perm implant. I am going to call the Medtronics rep tomorrow to get some type of time frame. I am pretty sore today those leads burned like fire when he pulled them out and of course now I dont have the stim to help with the pain ACK!!!! oh me dangle the carrot then take it away! Guest guest
I begged my doctor to leave the trial in until they could put the permanent one in, but he said they couldn't do that. I was working on my undergrad. degree at college when I had my trial SCS. My classmates could tell a diffence in me the week I had the trial. The next week, they asked what had happened b/c they noticed I was in more pain, I was less happy, and I was more tired than I had been the previous week. It still amazes me the difference my stimulator has made. As a matter of fact, my doctor and nurse call me their " poster child. " I was 24 when the first SCS was implanted and I am 28 now, but I look young for my age, so they think of me as a child. > > Hi Gang > Back from the drs visit. Guest guest
I told the doctor they couldn't take my temp SCS out either. Of course he said they had to and when he removed the tape and saw my skin he was a little concerned they had left it too long anyway. That's when I found out I needed to ask for another kind of tape. My entire back had been covered with tape and the entire back was one big sore. > > I had to laugh when I read your email. Guest guest
I am sooooo not having good days here! The last three days have been pure misery for me. It has been very tempting to stay in bed all day long. When I have been up, all I have wanted to do was to crawl back in the bed. That is just not me! I am emotionally exhausted with this pain right now. I think it is so much worse after you have had some relief for a period of time only to have it taken away from you. Yes, logically I understand why it had to be. However, my emotions and my body is crying out in agony right now because it hurts so dang bad! I have put in a call to both of the Medtronics reps that I dealt with earlier. I had put in a call last week to the guy who worked with me the whole time the trial was going on. I called him back today. I also called the rep who's office took care of getting the preapproval from the insurance. Neither of them has bothered to call me back yet. I know it has not been that long but it is frustrating when calls are not returned in a timely manner. I am trying my best to be patient here. I know that my insurance would not have approved the trial had they not intended to approve the permanent implant. That would be goofy in my opinion. Of course ins has done some stupid stuff in the past, however I do not think this is one of those cases. Our insurance is self funded so I may call Human Resources and fall on thier mercy and beg them to do something to get this approved faster than normal. Maybe I can plead with them for their sympathy. I am so tired of this and knowing there is something that can help me but I cannot get it is the pits. Sorry for writing a book but I am at my wits end here today. Kim Update Drs Visit > > Hi Gang > Back from the drs visit. I talked to him about the issues I had last night. Guest guest
I know that feeling all too well. I not only felt that way when my trial stimulator was taken out, but also when my first stimulator quit. When my stimulator quit I was miserable and scared that it would take as long to get an approval to replace it as it took to get approval for it. Luckily it didn't. I had surgery to replace the stimulator four days after it quit. I was very thankful, but those four days were horrible. > > > > I had to laugh when I read your email. I felt the same way. Guest guest
Thanks Deanna it feels cruel to me for sure! I hate feeling out of control and that is where I am at right now. I got pretty disgusted today. I wish sometimes that these medical people had to put up with the pain that we do for a few hours. I think that would make them MUCH more empathetic toward us than they are now!!!!! Anyone who has gone through what we have knows that this is no fun. Also we do not call just for the heck of it. Guest guest
I had a huge bandage covering all the wires and the device. So I can imagine if you had a reaction to the tape what it would have been like. At least now you know and it won't happen again. Can they put that on all your medical records, like they do if you have drug allergies. I'm allergic to Sulpha meds and it's all over all my records. I would think they should be able to do the same with the tape. That's all you need is to have to deal with that problem after having surgery. Guest guest
Kim, I know exactly how you feelm, been going through the same thing here. Still waiting to see my Neurosurgeon, only one more week, unless he calls and changes it again, like last week. Waiting all this time, has given me the chance to find a new doctor out of the area, all I need to do now is get all of my results and doctor's notes, then make an appt. On top of all of this, and Clearwire were having DNS issues and I couldn't get onto any sites for over a week. Hope things get better for you soon. Guest guest
Anytime I have a procedure or even something as simple as blood drawn I make sure they know tape breaks me out. I've not found any type of tape that doesn't cause my skin to break out in sores. If I put a bandaid on a cut, the sore the bandaid causes looks worse than the cut did. For fingers, arms, legs, etc. I use the bandage that sticks to itself and not to your skin. As I have said before it would look crazy using that after stimulator surgery. I would have looked like a mummy. My physical therapist thought it might be a pH reaction between my skin and the adhesive, so he tried coating my skin with milk-of- magnesia letting it dry and then putting the tape on. Still didn't work. After both my stimulator surgery and my knee surgery I ended up having to be treated for sores caused by bandages. What is really interesting is when they tell you to keep the place covered. What do you cover a sore with when your bandage is what caused the sore in the first place? With knee surgery they covered the inscision with gauze and wrapped an ace bandage around it. Sorry about rambling on about it, but if anyone has any suggestions on how I might cover sores, inscisions, cuts, etc. without causing more damage I'm open for advice. > > > > I had to laugh when I read your email. So now waiting for the 9th, my husband's going with me to this appt.! Also my PT called my GP and got me a prescription for a portable Tens Unit, don't know when it will arrive. He also talked to his brother in Spokane and has given me 2 m=names from the list I had of Neurosurgeons that were on my list for my Insurance. My medical insurance says I can go out of the area to find a new one. Just waiting until we see my regular Neurosurgeon before we make any decisions. Just wondering when this will all end. Guest guest
have you tried Nuskin? i am having a rough day but i think that is how it is spelled. it is a paint on bandage that seals but breathes so it will let the cut heal. good luck and God bless, Lexie
Guest guest
OH me that just totally stinks. Why then could they not give you an appt closer to the date than on the 9th. Sounds like they really don't get it that you need to find out what is causing all of your pain and fast. That just drives me batty when doctors act that way and they just dont even care much anymore what we think about it, it seems. Good that your PT got the prescription for the TENS hopefully they can get you one in real soon. I don't think it ever ends anymore sad to say.
