Guest guest
Have your Medtronic rep check your system again. I was getting shocked too about a year ago & they determined that the impedments were off. they did an exploratory surgery & discovered that the extentsion wires were fractured. the wires were replaced & no problems since then. Good Luck. Trish Unexpecting Shocks From: " zoo762 " <zoo762@...> Hi Everyone... I have actually been a member now for a few months but have not written or responded to any threads as of yet. I just got my Stim put in on March 26th. I love it even with the problem I am going through right now. I had a wonderful trial and permanent placement surgery went great as well. The problem I am having is that 1 1/2 weeks ago I woke up and felt what I though was slight numbess around the Stim battery. As the day went on, they were getting stronger and it was shocks. I though possibly one of the probe wires came loose. It started feeling like a cattle prod was back there. Pn Mgmt had me come over right away and did a diagnostic check on the Stim and it was fine. Lucky for me there was a medtronic rep there and they contacted medtronic as well. After going through all their questions medtronic had the rep press on the battery and it did shock me once. The doctor came in and did the same and it shocked me. They think that possible it is up against the sciatic nerve. Great!!! Has this happened to anyone else? They put me on steriods to take care of any swelling that might be inside and stated there was a good chance I'd have to go back into surgery to have the battery placed in another place. I finished the steriods and they had gotten lighter and less frequent so I told them on Friday to wait it more to see what happens. This afternoon they started coming back on stronger again. If surgery is the only way, I will do it as the Stim has helped me out 80% and I am only taking 1/4 of the pain meds I was taking prior to the surgery. I was told sometimes this happens in the first couple of weeks post surgery as fluid can build up in the pocket, but there is no fluid and they said my surgery several months ago so that should not happen. It puzzles me why this just started. Thanks, zoo762

Guest guest
Thanks Karl and Trish, I had a fluoroscopy done this past Thursday. The shocks seem to have gotten better after taking all the steriods, but last Sunday they started back up and spread to the hip and pelvis area on the right side. That is the side the transmitter is on. I still get good coverage for my pain and won't give up the stimualtor, but these shocks are getting horrible. My doc noticed the transmitter came through all the cushion (I call it FAT) and is just right under the skin surface. He thinks this may have an impact on it. Started me back on Neurontin in hopes this will help. He said it should take about 30 days until the Neurontin starts taking effect. Until then, I have to keep a close eye on it. The next step if this does not work or the trinsmitter breaks through the skin will be to move it to another place. That will not guarantee it will happen again though. Right now, I'm just praying the Neurontin ends up helping, though I hate being on as I gained 125 lbs when I was on it a few years ago. But it was an extreme high dose back then and now with the stimulator, I am able to do more walking and moving around than I was able to back then. zoo762 > > Have your Medtronic rep check your system again.
