> My doctor told me it is time for me to start using insulin.

Sorry to hear this, but if it makes you *feel* better as well as control

your sugars better, what can you do. Maybe once you get it under better

control and start exercising more with the renewed energy you can go

back to just the oral meds.

I guess I'll have to do without eating meat on a stick for yet another year.

Did the rain stop, Sue?

We had rain and storms what, last week? This week has been ok weather-wise not tooooo horribly hot yet (well, really). Today was 80 and I guess that isn't too hot. Considering.

Sorry you had to miss the festival due to weather though.

Amazingly, it did. Thunderstorms were predicted for both weekend days

(and up through next Thursday), then Saturday dawned with bright blue

skies with puffy white clouds and plenty of sunshine and not a drop of

precipitation in sight. This morning it was the same.

But I ws afraid that my foot and not the weather was going to keep me

from the festival, but last night I broke down and took one of the

naproxin pills given to me by the podiatrist. They were for dire

circumstances only, because there's the chance they'll raise my liver

enzymes like that asthma pill did, but I just couldn't stand the pain

any longer. With plantar fasciitis, you usually have pain in the heel

after being off of the foot for a while. Mine was getting so bad that I

was in constant pain, even when off the foot and in bed. Even keeping

ice packs on it didn't help. Last night, for the first time in weks, I

was able to sleep without pain. It was so nice this morning! I was able

to get out of bed and stand without too much pain, too, so after

breakfast took another dose. After roaming through the grocery store and

wandering around the festival my foot is sore and twinging a bit, but

nothing compared to what it's been like. I guess I'll keep taking it

every 12 hours for a few days and see waht happens. I'm getting

bloodwork drawn on Tuesday, anyway, so if it *is* hurting my liver I'll

find out soon enough.

The festival was nice. When we got there the parade was still going on

so I got to see a lot of the girls and even older women in traditional

costumes and the beauty pagent contestants in their frilly gowns with

yards and yards of taffeta and lace. The music was a disappointment.

Instead of bands playing traditional music there were a few rock groups

taking turns on the stage as well as a few preachers. The vendor tables

were a disappointment, too, with cheap jewelry, made in China straw and

faux leather purses, and a slew of tables from various banks (Send money

back home the easy way!) and tv services (cable vs dish vs phone

company) and cell phone services. No clothing stalls, no books or music

stalls, not even the guy from the comapny that sells religious items,

like statues of the saints and buddahs.

Oh, well. We saw the parade, walked around the vendors' tables twice,

avoided all the food and caught the train back home for a late lunch.

The meat on a stick just wasn't that appetizing this year - everything

wasjust so grease-covered and didn't resemble anything recognizable as a

food product. I guess the thrill was gone. That's OK, I'll make up for

it in September when the Irish festival hits and we go for the corned

beef and sauerkraut sandwiches.

> We had rain and storms what, last week?

Even on Friday the rain got so bad we could barely see across the

street. It rained every single day for at least 10 days. We passed a lot

of areas still flooded on the way to Ed's aunt's yesterday morning.

The weather forecasters said this coming week we were going to have

upper 80's and 90's so I changed my dinner menus around so I don't have

to light the oven once. This morning the revised forecast has upper 70's

or low 80's. I'll take it! They're still threatening us with scattered

or isolated t-storms every day for the 10-day forecast, though.

> Sorry you had to miss the festival due to weather though.

I'm glad this is one occasion the forecasters were 100 wrong! These

people needed this good weather, after being rained out the past three

years. Already at 11am the place was jammed.
