It is funny how different approaches make people feel different. I got rid of

all fillings that had mercury in it, detoxed myself with ozone therapy, became

70% vegan, take herbs and good multivitamins, never took meds and I feel more

able than I never have in my old pre HIV life.

I have known that I am HIV positive for more than 6 years now.

Subject: Getting disability

I just returned from an HIV support group where someone said more people than

ever before with HIV are being denied disability benefits. I believe this is

true not only for those with HIV but all medical conditions. The emphasis in the

feds is on the denial of benefits.

For those who are going to apply for disability or those who recently applied,

but not yet denied. Eligibility for disability is based ONLY on your ability to

do the ADL's (activities of daily living). It is not based on what medical

conditions you have or how sick you are. You should never try to squeeze your

answers into the tiny boxes they allow on the application form. Write in the box

" see attached " write out your complete answer on a separate paper and attach it

to your application. On the top right corner of each page of your attachment

write your social security number and name (just in case they get separated).

Number each page 1 of 5, for instance, so they know how many pages should be

together. You should write a list for yourself of each and every medical

condition you have. Include everything including minor insignificant things like

glasses, itchyness, rashes, inability to concentrate, anything and everything.

Then for your attachment write each medical condition and write a paragraph

stating how this condition prevents you from working. Be creative and

complaining if you have to. Repetion is ok, as is legnth of the attachment.

Social Security thrives on paper. The more you give them the more they love it.

So do not care how long the attachment is. Finally, make a copy of your

application and all attachments for each one of your doctors, and one for you.

Always keep a copy of everything you send to them. Make an appointment to see

each doctor and bring the copy into the examination room with you. Hand it to

the doctor. This is far too important to trust to a nurse or office staff who

might misplace it or bury it in your file.

There are other tips on how to get approved. Let me know if anyone is

interested.

If you are denied call a lawyer. One of those lawyers you see on TV is fine. To

fight a denial professional help is needed. Do not leave it up to a case manager

or ASO. Most of them are idiots and this is far too important to leave to anyone

but yourself.
