Someone may chime in here to confirm or deny but my poor old nurses brain says

the cortisone shouldn't be used on a fresh incision because it will stop it from

healing. I have had good luck with ice on healing incisions that itch so

horribly.

Good luck & God bless,

Lexie

Kim,

Completely normal and itching is a sign of healing.

Subject: incision itching driving me nuts

Hey guys

Did anyone else have issues with your incisions itching like mad? Mine are

itching and driving me nuts. I am having to take Benardyl and put

hydrocortisone creme on them to keep me from scratching the dang blood out

of them.

It just started Tues night after I saw the doc. He said everything looked ok

when I saw him for follow up and said for me to wear this binder for 4 more

weeks to keep fluid from accumulating where the implant is.

He told me I could leave off the back brace for a while because it was

rubbing my incision where the leads were put in and giving me fits.

But this itching is something new.

Anyone?

Itching and lots of it. yes I had it after my SCS surgery, and every

other surgery I've had for that matter. Itching is normal when

inscisions, wounds, etc. are healing. It will go away as the

inscision heals. I know it isn't the most pleasant sensation, but it

is normal.

Does the benadryl and hydrocortizone cream help? I just toughed it

out. Scratching my incision sight wouldn't have been appropriate

considering mine is implanted in my hip/buttocks.

I developed itching all over my body after my last 3 surgeries. It was

hives and I ended up on Allegra on a daily basis to keep the hives at bay.

If I get off, even for one day, the hives will come back.

I have always itched after surgery, even when the stitches were internal,

dissolving stitches. I've always been told not to scratch though because it

will make it worse and you could damage the area.

Take Care,

Thanks for that Lexie I didnt think of that. I am glued together not stitched

lol but I have stopped using the hydrocortisone and am now using Emu oil which

is a natural substance. Since the incisions are glued I do not think anything is

going to get in them. I feel they are healed enough that they are ok with this.

The itching is a lot better now.

Thanks to everyone who answered me on this!

Oh, I hate to hear about the itching! Is it the incision itself or

the area around it? I had horrible itching after my 2nd implant and

they finally determined it was caused by the surgical tape. Seems

I've become allergic to the adhesive on it so I have to be careful

when using any kind of surgical tape now. Hope your itching goes away

soon!
