Well, there really isn't much interacting wtih the exercisers in any of her

tapes, if that's what you're looking for. She'll toss out a comment here and

there, get a chuckle now and then, but that's about it. How much can you do

with marching in place and a few knee lifts and kick backs?

>Those tapes are more for thin people that want to tone up

*Most* exercise tapes seem to be specifically for the already-thin! Even

's newer BlastOffs, the 3 released last year and this year's 3, seem

more geared to the thin and limber than to those of us with 100 pounds or

more to lose.

>I have a lot of RS videos and Zumba videos

Zumbas? I thought they were little kid videos? Or am I thinking of a

different series?

> if I can get motivated to do them.

Bingo! This is my problem now. The longr I stay away from exercise the

harder it is to get back into it. Recently it was the sinus infection and

diziness that kept me from doing my daily workout. I did one tape last

Monday, ran all around the state Tuesday, and by Wednesday lost all momentum

again. I can't get any exercise videos in when my guys are home (too much

noise in this apartment and I would wake them up) so now I'm aiming for

Tuesday to start agin when they go back to work and college again. I *have*

to - my blood pressure is starting to creep back up again and I *know*

steady exercise will help a great deal in getting it back down again.

(and get

> over the pain in my foot)

There isn't much exercise you can do with a bad foot except for some chair

dancing, and if you're used to a more aerobic workout, that doesn't do much

good but at least keeps the blood circulating a bit. :)

Well gotta go just wanted to check in and

14 pounds is great! My fit friends love the Firm videos but they sound

daunting for chubby girls. :) I like Sansone because her tapes are

easy to follow. I find some tapes too spastic. You just have to find

something that suits you though. Does your library or video rental store

carry some you can try?

I got the Walk & Kick dvd too! I liked what you had to say about it. And I needed to add some more "kick" to my workout. I really like it. I ordered mine from Amazon.com. They had a companion one to it at a reduced rate -- Walk & Jog. Wow. Both are good workouts. Tried the Walk & Jog one this morning. Found out I need to get a better workout bra! ;)

You may need to give your son time to adjust to this new way of life. It may take him a while to get his mind wrapped around the change of attitude.

Have you thought about looking at the President's Fitness Challenge to see if there is one that fits your son? His PE teacher may be able & willing to help set up a fitness routine for him.

He has completed PE for this school year. They don't

have PE all year around, just two semesters out of the

year. I'd love to get him into martial arts or sports

program, but he just isn't interested.

What kind of things is he interested in doing? That would be a good place to start.

Can you remind me again, how old is he?

> I havent' been active with the group for about a week, I think?

You have a busy life so I thought nothing of it. I *did* think of you every

time I picked up the OO book this week. Unfortunately, eating that wasy is

not for me - I really can't afford to gain back all the weight I lost in

1999-2000, especially when I still need to lose over 100. I know the authors

write how everyone " relapses " back into dieting from time to time, but after

50 years of it I just can't wrap my mind around the concept of *not* dieting

when I'm this big!

> Today am trying to get back on MY plan which combines features from

And I'm headed back to yet another go-round of mostly McDougalling. I still

have some foods in the house from " stocking up " , but the guys will take care

of those for me. :)

> Last week exercised four times.

Congrats! I got in 2 workouts, this week only one formal one and one slow

walking in stores. Yesterday Henry had an on-line mid-term to take at home

so I had to be *very* quiet for 4 hours, and after that had too much to do.

But today, as soon as I get in from the laundromat, that video is going into

the machine and I've got to JUST DO IT!

This week only once so far, but am

> planning to do an exercise video today.

As teacher or student? You teach ESL so you must already know Spanish,

right? Excuse this allergy-fogged head if you already explained this before.

One thing I've been doing this week that I got *out* of the habit of doing

is eating a snack in the evening after dinner. I've also been having a worse

problem with sleeping this week, too, so they're probably related. No more

bedtime snacks for me, especially after last night's sherbet and then

falling asleep to Lost in Space. I was having nightmares about mechanical

spiders that kept waking me up.

I hear you, sue!!!Actually, the principles that I learned from

the Overcoming Overeating books will stay with me always, whether I

eat that way or not. I learned so much from them about what

deprivation and forbidden food lists do to me.

Have been faithfully going to yoga class, now with Louise which is

nice. Of course we now are in the habit of going out to eat after

class!!! it's turning into a nice night for the two of us.

It's quite confusing, I know. Actually I don't speak Spanish

or any other language even though I teach ESL. This is quite unusual,

and I want to master another language for many reasons. So once I

week, I'm a student!!!!!! and not the brightest light bulb, let me

just say!

Thanks for being so faithful about replying, sue. I really appreciate

>I learned so much from them about what

I did ingrain some of the lingo, like BBT's (bad body thoughts), mirror

work, MH vs SH (mouth hunger versus stomach hunger). I also learned that I

can eat healthy (like vegetarian foods) and not feel deprived. But as far as

forbidden foods go, well, I know that some foods *have* to be if I want to

maintain good health. Unlike a diabetic using OO, I can't just have my meds

adjusted if I want to eat sugar. As a hypoglycemic, I have to avoid the

sugary foods or suffer the consequences. I know I have to avoid dairy or my

sinuses and arthritis pact up. I'd rather make the choice to avoid the

problems than take medication to " fix " them. I dislike meds and their side

effects more than I like thing like cheese.

> > Good luch, Sue. I know that you feel so much better in

> every way when you are following the mcDougal plan.

Yeah, you would think that at age 51 I would remembr that, but because OO

told me I *can* eat any food, and because, well, because those foods taste

so darn GOOD, I keep finding excuses to eat them, then kick myself in my

ample butt when I feel lousy, physically, after eating them.

I'll still allow myself some of those FFF (formerly forbidden foods) in

measured amounts now and then - I know I can't keep them completely out of

my life. I'll also continue to substitute healthier versions of them. The OO

book compares it to eating carrots when what is really wanted is carrot

cake. Well, I'll make my sugar-free, low fat version of carrot cake made

with whole wheat pastry flour and it'll taste just as good. That's what I

was doing before reading OO and that's waht I'll go back to doing now.

> > YES!! I did 25 minutes of Sansone yesterday and 30

Whoa! The change in weather did you good! LOL Congrats!

It's much more fun to go with a friend!

> It's quite confusing, I know. Actually I don't speak Spanish

> or any other language even though I teach ESL. This is quite unusual,

So it *wasn't* my allergy bfuddled brain! That's good to know. :)

> and I want to master another language for many reasons.

I had 3 years of Spanish in high school and gotfot almost all of it. When

Henry was homeschooled he had to get in 2 years of a foreign language, and

he chose Spanish and I learned it along with him. Then he switched to

Japanese, just for fun, for his last 2 years, and I said Sayonara and he

learned on his own using a few books and a computer program. It's come in

handy already with his friends at school, but mostly he wanted to learn it

because many of the video games, animé. and stories he was reading at the

time (manga) come from Japan and include Japanese phrases. To keep from

getting rusty, him and his fellow nerds sometimes toss Japanses phrases at

each other. Well, I guess it's better than bar hopping or chasing after some

girls! LOL

So once I

> week, I'm a student!!!!!! and not the brightest light bulb, let me

> just say!

You should see me with my ASL - American Sign Language - videos. For a while

I could fingerspell the alphabet, getting most of the letters right, and

when I worked in the nursing home I know a few simple words, like " food " and

" sleep " , but with nobody to practice with I just can't retain any of it.

> Thanks for being so faithful about replying, sue. I really appreciate

I just don't want you to disappear again. LOL! You seem to be doing pretty

good right now and it's nice to see you this way again. :)

Can you do a free trial to see if you like it? I did two weeks free at 24

starting a new job on Monday.

Sounds good. Our grocery store had the biggest Alaskan king crab legs I've

ever seen. We didn't buy any though. I bought canned crab to make crab

cakes. I need to find a day to make those with the kids.

I loved Curves. I'm not really a group exercise person, but it's not,

exactly, group exercise. You join in when you arrive and people are

always coming and going. Keep your eyes open if you decide to

join--almost all the Curves I've known do promotions where they wave

the initiation fee. Then you can try it out for a month for about

$35-40, and if you like it you can lower the rate to $25-30/month by

signing on for a year. If it wasn't for the no childcare/limited

hours of operation, I'd still belong. I just found that by the time

dh walked through the door at night to watch the kids, they were about

to close.

That sounds heavenly! Might have to try that this week.

Your water story had me cracking up--yesterday I really increased my

water intake and it was terrible timing on my part. Our movie theater

does a free admission kid's movie every week, Wed-Fri at 10am. I took

the kids, but I'd already had a liter of water and I had to get up

every 10 minutes and my kids weren't happy with me! *lol* My older

son was like, " Aw, mom, not AGAIN! I'm 5--you can leave me here,

okay? " No deal. Oh boy were they irritated by the end of it. *laugh*

Sorry to hear your trip back was so miserable! That's one of the

worst sensations, IMO. All it takes is one time before you're mapping

out rest areas and public bathrooms for every trip ;)

That is Dory our 2 year old lab, we have to tie her to the steering wheel to

make sure she doesn't get to excited and push Trinity into the water. Dory

is a water dog and it's very hard to keep her out of it. OBTW, all of

Dory's fetch toys are called Nemo, so Dory is forever " Finding Nemo " for us!

Hi ... don't think I responded to this yet since the week is a blur LOL.. I got to Curves and love it. Some days, I just sit there, in my little world, going around the circuit and don't really chat with the other gals, some days I talk my little heart out. Thursday when we went the music was cool, playing songs like the hokey pokey and stuff so we were making the movements when on the recovery pads. It was a riot. I think you would love it. See if you can get a 1-2 week pass, they will sometimes let you do that... also, see if you can get in on some kind of special to waive or lower the joining fee, that would be the steep part. I think it is like $150 if you have to pay the full thing. Otherwise, it's like $30-50 from what I have heard depending on your location (mine is $32 and change a month).....

Definately. That's the promo I got mine waived during. Thank goodness. I sure enjoy going and can make the $35 a month work out, but coming up with the $150 would have been rough.
