Firstly being that Gulf Vets Parades, attempted in the past, have rarely gained as much press coverage as would have been liked. I have worked with veterans organisations for some years now and have come to learn several things regarding parades, the first being that veterans themselves are sadly lacking in any great will to speak out on their and their colleagues behalfs, certainly the press, with whom I have had great dealings with over the past 6 years have little interest in coverage of such an event, they need some spin or out of the ordinary handle to attach to the event. Secondly, the Planning. Whereas the idea is good, it must be looked at as either a legally and well organised event, involving The Police to whom we must apply for permission to parade and march, and the politicians themselves to mark it as an official event in respect of the veterans, past and present. Alternatively, it could be planned as 'an illegal' march. Taking into account it is also the 50TH Anniversary of the Declaration of Human Rights, a peace protest in fact, campaning not only against the Gulf War (1990/91) but also against the lack of progress in the GWS Issue and the recent inhumane and uneccessary actions against Iraq. This could involve various movements with whom I, and others aare in contact with and would achieve two things. Greater numbers on parade, Veterans of the Gulf and other Conflicts, Gulf Associations and other organisations, Socialists, Peace Movements, Religious movements, Anti government protestors and Middle East Supporters. With large numbers of people, well advertised, no police permission or knowledge, little could be done about traffic control in and around Whitehall until it is too late. A sudden and unnanounced march would surely and totally clog up the traffic flow around Whitehall without notice and would bring the press, not allready privi to the march, flocking, of this I am sure. Please dont get me wrong, I think the idea is sound but if it will achieve little more than a stroll down whitehall with a couple of mates, which is how most vets seem to view these parades, then the day will be wasted. Best Wishes Honer ok u.k vets its time to talk about a parade/march to mark the end of the gulf war i feel it would be a good idea to try and assemble a couple of hundred plus vets meet in london have a march ( discuss later ) high profile press coverage to be arranged. If any U.S.FORCES VETS could make it you would be most welcome,it could create quite a hornets nest. all sugestions./emails to me please a.s.a.p i would like to start a list to give me some ideas of nos ect cheers the BULLDOG
