Guest guest
To the list: I am reposting this, we have added quite a few members since this was originally sent to the list. Several of us still have e-mail preferences set to fully quote messages you are replying to. Not using to reply to: method is also an option, simply send a fresh e-mail and paste a partial quote (half a dozen lines) of the message you are responding to " Also, no attachments please, they are not archived by onelist, so latecomers never get to read them, they are large and eat up mailbox space fast. We had a half meg attachment sent here, tough for those who have a 3 meg (total) inbox!! It was not posted. <><><><> The repost: There is a great deal of useful information in the e-mails, degests of them and ultimately the archives. Many here may want to save information. To make that as efficient as possible, we will want to avoid duplicate information in the form of full quotes of each others e-mails. We are all new to this list and you are doing a great job. As we grow, our digests will as well, A list I previously belonged to eventually had 500 members, some digest versions were actually unable to be recieved by some whose mailboxes sent out a " full mailbox " message. Enclosed are some mail management tips: For those of us who reply to messages by clicking on " re: Mail " , some e-mail programs are quoting whole strings of e-mail messages, which are including other reply to's " re: Mails " /replys with full quotes (and quotes of quotes etc.) To avoid full quotes of each others e-mails when using your reply to function: Netscape Users: Click on the Options button, in the roll down menu, choose Mail & news preferences. In the box that appears, go to Composition at the bottom left (in mine) appears a box if checked it automatically quotes original messages (in full) when replying, uncheck this box. Instead of a full requote, simply paste up the first several lines of the message you are responding to, Also, the easiest way to use you copy paste functions are as follows. Highlight the text, press the control key, while holding it down, press c (Control + c) it goes to your clipboard waiting to be pasted. To paste the text, simply press control key, while holding it down, press the v key (Control + v) This is faster than using the edit pull down since you can just use your keys to complete the copy, paste functions. Other useful information for Netscape users can be found at: http://home.netscape.com/eng/mozilla/3.0/handbook/index.html Other versions, check here: http://help.netscape.com/faqs.html and pick your version of Netscape from the list. Not sure? click Help (on your browser), then " about " to display your version. <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> E-MAIL? Go to Options on left screen click options, then click preferences, go to " Forwarding " (by default, do you want to forward messages as attachments or as quoted inline text?) and click " Forward as inline text " rather than as attachments, also click " replying " (do you want to include the original message when replying?) click " don't include message " Inline text can simply be cropped down to a few pertinent sentences. Additionally the opportunity to select ( " inline or as attachment " )for each individual e-mail exists on each " read message " screen, right after the forward button, choose inline. <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> Other free e-mail services have similiar options and preferences.
