I'm so sorry that you had the flu, Heidi! That's very hard when you are

pregnant. A good excuse to stay home from work though.

Hope you won't be too stressed trying to get caught up on what you need

to do on the job. Don't worry about us, we understand how easy it is to

fall behind. Just rest a lot. You're body is very busy right now.

Hi nne....I'm wee Ethan's mum, make sure you do keep us updated on Caroline, hope everything goes well with her 1st surgery!....Was it your decision for her to have surgery this young?, or the Dr's? We have been told here (in NZ) that our son won't be having surgery until he is about 4, and that would be the epicanthal surgery, then followed by the ptosis before he turns 5 and starts school, it's amazing the different opinions Dr's have all over the world of when surgery should be done ha?...Talk soon

Hello All!Haven't checked in for a while...and was so amazed by the activity level. Great! Thank you so much for sharing your stories and adding really valuable information - and all the work you have been doing Shireen - thanks a million. As for the database, I have added Caroline's information. As for the pictures - I can see that two of ours are quite big. I think I will delete them, and add new and smaller ones for you - if I can figure out how!The update here is that Caroline just turned 2 - and she is a handful!! Her vocabulary is - to say the least - very good, and she certainly has a will of her own :-). She just started nursery and is so happy. On the BPES side, we are going in for a short check up on March 25, and then 1st operation is scheduled for April 1 (fixing the epicanthus inversus). We will return home the same day. I will add before/after pictures as we go along. I am beginning to feel a bit anxious. I can't bear the thought of her in narkosis (is that the word) - on the other hand, we have decided that a operation will be helpful (seeing the pictures here only adds to this conviction), so I guess we will just have to wait and see and hope for the best. Again - thanks everyone for sharing - it is so helpful! I will certainly take some of this information to our doctor - just to make sure he is up-to-date!! Cheers, nne

Hello there,

Well, it was partly the doctor's partly our decision. The doctor

decided a year ago that he wanted to operate after Caroline turned 2

(allowing 6 months between the two operations - and that it may not

even be necessary for her to have both operations). We then decided

that we might as well do the first one now, see the results and then

decide if any more work is necessary. Am getting a bit nervous now,

but will certainly keep you informed about outcome/progress etc. I

will post pictures as we go along - which I hope will calm the rest

of you waiting for ops.

And by the way...we are in the 'cold North', we live in Denmark

(Scandinavia).

Brgds M

P.S. And thanks for the comments to the pictures!! Will write back

soon.

Hi tawny: I am so sorry that you have been sick. I am sure you are run

down from all the stress that you have been going through. I swear,

when it rains, it pours. The flu can be so nasty, so I hope you feel

better soon.

I am sure you are resting as much as possible. What choice do you have

with a bad case of flu.

What a time for your RA to be in a bad flare. Have you called your

Rheumy to tell him how sick you are? Perhaps he can give you some other

meds. to help you through this bad time. I hope things settle down for

you. You have way too much to handle right now.

My thoughts and prayers are with you. I pray better days will be coming

soon for you. I also pray you will have many pain free days ahead.

I am so enjoying being with my daughter and 2 little ganddaughters. I

so treasure my time with them. It is good to be home for a week.

Hugs,

Barbara

Hi -

You know - I've kind of had the same question this year especially and to be

honest, with so many of us taking these drugs that impair our immune system

(even worse I might add!!!!) I am making sure I get all those suckers this year

- last year I started getting the pneumonia shot as well and I think I will

continue. And with the drain our system takes when on these biologics!!  At

least for me, I'm going for it. I AM going to talk to doc later this month when

I go about the swine flu vaccine & if he recommends getting it, that's another

needle in my arm for the year!

Anyone have an opinion as to why we should NOT?  I'd really love the input from

the group both ways!

Hugs to all!

it is just because of the lowered immunity that I fear these new flu shots.

Does anyone know if adequate testing has been done?

Hi Barbara,

I am trying to take it easy. I haven't called the doc, you know me.

I'm taking something for my sore throat, and just trying to rest. I

just feel yucky, and not much anyone can do.

I'm so glad your enjoying your family, its very important. You take

Its nice to be missed:) I'm not sure if I'm going to take the one for

swine flu. I heard its a live vaccine. I'm not suppose to take that

type of vaccine taking mtx and humira. I will talk to my doctor though.

Its really scary, its so new you know. I just hope it helps stop this

stuff. I will be staying in, as much as I can.

Take care,

Tawny

My rheumy always makes sure that I've had a flu shot every year. The

pneumonia shot is every five years, but I've heard that if you have it

after the age of 65, you shouldn't need it again. But I expect I'll

get another one when it's been five years.

My rheumy said they're not recommending the shingles shot for those of

us with these autoimmune diseases on immunosuppressant drugs.

Chas was talking the other day about how much I wash my hands, use sanitizer,

etc. Also in public places like work or whatever, I turn the faucets, doorknobs,

and light switches with a paper towel. She said people probably thought I had

OCD, and we just laughed about that! of course they may be right....those of us

on immunosuppressants have to be a little OCD about " cooties. " Hope you feel

better soon, dear friend. Emailing you cyber-chicken-soup.

Tawny,

I'm praying that you feel better soon.  You are too nice to feel bad.

I am doing ok - typing this in the morning so stiff but that is nothing new!

My hubby on the other hand has been feverish & says his lungs are bothering him

- I will be making a trip to Urgent Care with him today.
