Guest guest
To the list: The Spammer from the USS Carl Vinson is being handled through proper channels. AFTER I asked him not to write to me again, I got two more long rambling letters, one began: " By the way, who do you think you are sending complaints to my webmaster? Who are you to tell me what stories to write and when not to ask questions? " That last sentence is because I found out he actually did write stories on the Vinson. I collected the titles and suggested he stick to those since they were well written by comparison to the e-mails! and since he didn't mind telling us what to talk about on our list..... Needless to say, the webmaster got copies of the additional contacts as well. If anyone gets unwanted or suspicious mail off list, contact me, and I can at least verify whether or not it is coming from a member. Joining a list does not entitle the public at large to inflict their " freedom of speech " on you, because someone forwarded them a letter you wrote. While the invitation to join has been extended to the public, the list is not a public forum, and the archives are restricted to members. Most, if not all servers will help you in stopping their customers from writing unsolicited e-mails to you. If someone posts in a public forum and asks to be contacted that is a different matter. If you have problems with unwanted contact re: Anthrax, save the e-mail with it's source data and let me know. Gretchen I got the responses below from the USS Vinson, and noted they put several CC:s on the letters as well. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ " I am a System Administrator for Seacontrol Squadron 29 which is currently onboard the Carl Vinson right now. I am sorry that you are being inconvenianced by this intrusion. I too find it irritating to be on such a mailing list like that. " " I need to know the E-mail address of the person or organization sending you this " Spam " mail. once I get this E-mail addredss I can take action to ensure that you do not recieve mail from this person again. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Please forward a copy of the complete email to me and I will see to it that it is investigated and proper action taken if this email in fact originated from the ship. We take these matters very seriously. USS Carl Vinson Webmaster " - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
