Guest guest
Subject: Re: Dover Suspends Anthrax!!! Date: Sat, 8 May 1999 21:39:32 -0700 From: " Colleen Clements " <sunshine@...> " daniel j meck " <danielmeck@...> , Why isn't this making any kind of media attention. It seems that we are the only ones who are aware of all the New Evidence coming out about the Gulf War. I know they know, but you would never know it. Why is that??? I'm getting really frustrated. I contacted my local news and at first they were gung ho and wanted the story all for themselves, well they did nothing with it. I contacted the paper. Nothing. So, what can all of us do to get this National Attention?????? I can't stand to just watch all this coming out and it's getting hidden and pushed aside so we can fight in Kosovo and not upset anyone. So, give me your ideas, opinion. I know you say be patient, but this is getting ridiculous. The Vanity Fair article should have made the News. Take Care Colleen **************************************************** Hi Colleen and all, I agree that this certainly isn't stirring up a hornets-nest outside of the veterans groups...we all know how much the media cares about the military, they want blood and guts not scandals (Clinton gives them those). What we as individuals can do: print out copies of the email msgs and take them to your local news agencies...send them to the mainstream orgs (I always send things email to ABC CNN MSNBC etc-usually get form letter responses) ...and your congress-person. Write letters to the editors of your local newpapers...call your radio stations...call your state representatives. I know these are not always getting the results we want to see...but if we all are trying to contact someone...sooner or later we will get through. We must all recognise that we are a team...and that if we act as responsible individuals---within the team....we will overcome. I know you don't want to hear about being patient. I don't want to either, too many GW friends dying as this keeps dragging along. We have to work the system from within...it's a pain in the ***, but any other methods will allow them to have us appraised as radicals, militia, or just crazy Gulf Vets (you know how stressed we are...it's even made us ill). We truly need to keep up a concerted effort to press on with the truth...it's obvious that the machine we are battling doesn't really care about us....rather they wish we'd go away. Just remember...the squeaky wheel is the one gets greased.....lets all keep squeaking. This is a good site to get some news agency email addresses...I know there are many more. We all need to do our part if we are going to 'make something happen' before more of our brothers and sisters die from this illness...whether caused by the shots, burning oil-well smoke, low dose exposures to chemical and/or nerve agents, DU, or some bug in the mid-east. http://www.el.com/ Anyone with strong media ties or interactions...we'd all appreciate any response.... Sincerely,
Guest guest
Dear all....... The one thing you have in the US, even though you may feel that it has been eroded to a very great degree, is the ability to quote your Constitution and your Bill of Rights. YOU HAVE A VOICE, and as so succintly put it........you MUST use it. We in the UK have NO voice, we are perceived as subjects of this country and not citizens. We live in a society that does not honour Veterans or accord them the respect that they deserve, it does however honour the dead. I do believe they should be honoured for their sacrifices, but not to the detriment of the living. The fact remains that it is cheaper to do this than to pay Veterans a decent living pension. We do NOT have a Freedom of Information Act, or a Constitution, nor do we have a Bill of Rights which would allow us to do what our American Colleagues are able to do. Our society has been a closed structure of secrecy until very recently, to obtain information from our political representatives is a very long and involved process. It is based on outmoded undemocratic systems warped by history and an ethic of feudalism. It takes great effort and time to push any enquiry through to the Houses of Parliament, and longer to get these questions answered. Our politicians do not have to follow a set of Constitutional rules, they can do as they think fit, they can set their own priorities and they are not answerable to us except at election time or when we publicly demonstrate our feelings. We do have the " Mother of all Parliaments " however it is as yet NOT a fully Democratic institution. We do have a " Monarchy " which has also it's own interests at heart and NOT those of the subjects over whom they appear to rule. Our political system since King the 1st restricted the size of the armed forces because the Monarchy and Parliament have an inbred fear of a Military Coup D'etat, this fear of the common man has permeated their thinking to such a degree that they have labelled us as the " Common Herd " , the " Ignorant Masses " , and the " Working Class " . We are fit enough to fight and die so that they can live their way, however we are perceived to be unfit to participate in the governance of our own future or our country. We are perceived as being too ignorant and uneducated to be told the truth, and too emotional and irrational to be given the facts. They do not trust us and we do not trust them and this leads to a scenario that makes dialogue very difficult. The reality is that it is we who do the fighting and dying and we are more in touch with reality than they are. We are perceived as a danger to them to their privilege, to their status. In striving to make YOUR voices heard in the United States, by doing ALL of the things which suggested, you bring matters to the surface which if, given enough impetus, could not only give YOU the help you so badly need, but also OUR government would not be able to ignore it. At the end of the day this small island is only a satellite of the United States. Regards Anne
