Guest guest
Hi Anja, Both my sister and I used the consultant eye surgeon Mr Collin @ Moorfields Eye Hospital in London. Although the hospital is NHS, as Mr Collin is a consultant, you can use him privately which is the route we took. I have put his secretary's numbers down below for his private patients:- Mr Collin MA FRCS FRCOphth 020 7486 2699 020 7486 8626 He is based in Harley Street in London. Mr Collin is the best surgeon that we saw and has a lot of expertise in BPES correction (i think I should get some commission from him!!) Hope this helps, Hannah In blepharophimosis , " Anja Shahin " <anjashahin@h...> wrote: > Hello, > > I have a question for those who had their surgeries done at Moorfelds > Hospital in London. > Do you have any surgeon names? Guest guest
Hi Hannah and , Thanks for the info about Dr. Collin. Your pics both look just amazing!!!!! He really seems to know his job!! Hannah, do you also have any " before " pics? How many surgeries has Dr. Collin performed on you (Hannah and )? Wich one did he do first and at what age? I guess that the costs were not covered by your health insurance? We will definitely travel to London this year to meet Dr. Collin (we live in Germany)! Fortunately my mother in law lives in London. Thank you again!!!! Guest guest
Hello Hannah! Maree in NZ here. You mentioned ? I just looked at s old records & his name was mentioned in a letter from her ophtham...to another man, who had trained under said R. at More-fields. This man, who had trained under was being asked to take on as a patient due to his previous experience & training. So some `experts` are happy to acknowledge their lack of knowlegde & pass us on! This was back in 1991 & way down here in N.Z. so he must certainly have some credentials. Hannah, if he operated on you, then he certainly did a good job going by your pics! Bye now Maree > > Hello, > > > > I have a question for those who had their surgeries done at > Moorfelds > > Hospital in London. > > Do you have any surgeon names? Guest guest
Anja When you come to London, if you want to get in touch, let me know. I live pretty close to Moorfields, and I have seen Mr. Collin too (but long ago). By the way, he is "Mr Collin", as Hannah has written. In the UK, surgeons are called "Mr" (or Mrs, Ms) - not "Dr". here is why: Surgeons, or rather male surgeons, are always addressed as Mr in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland, sometimes but not always in Australia and New Zealand, and rarely in Canada or the United States. This curious British tradition is such a mystery to doctors in other countries as well as to the British public, that even a work as erudite as the 1996 edition of The New Fowler's Modern English Usage seems to have got it wrong.1 Is it therefore a tradition that should be perpetuated indefinitely, or should it be abandoned? To understand how the tradition arose it is necessary to go back to the beginning of the 18th century, when physicians were distinguished by the possession of a university medical degree: an MD. Although many had acquired their MDs abroad with minimal effort or bought them for about £20 (about £800 today) from the Universy of Aberdeen or of St s, the possession of a medical doctorate entitled physicians and no other medical practitioner to be addressed as "doctor." Eighteenth century surgeons, who were of course addressed as Mr, seldom had any formal qualification except in the case of the few who were Members of the Company of Surgeons. After the founding of the Royal College of Surgeons of London in 1800, however, it was customary for surgeons to take the examination for Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons and put MRCS after their name.2 .... Surgeons became so proud to be distinguished from physicians that the title of Mr became a badge of honour this quote came from: http://bmj.bmjjournals.com/cgi/content/full/321/7276/1589 Shireen blepharophimosis Re: Moorfields Hospital>Date: Fri, 06 Feb 2004 13:06:32 -0000>>Hi Anja,>>Both my sister and I used the consultant eye surgeon Mr Collin @>Moorfields Eye Hospital in London. Guest guest
Hi Anja, I only had two operations too. The first (when I was 4) was to sort the corners of my eyes out and then secondly (when I was 10) the leg tendon operation with Mr Collin. When are you coming to London? Guest guest
Hi Hannah, and all, Wow, this is another evidence for that it really seems to depend on who performs surgery. The success also seems to have something to do with the age when surgery is performed at. You were already ten years old and eleven. Do you remember why they delayed the big surgery that long? The surgeons we saw here in Germany recommended to waiting that long, too, but I still don't trust them and I doubt that they have enough experience especially with BPES related ptosis surgery. They keep on saying that we should consider not to have any surgery done at all, because the result would not be satisfactory!!! And they are very reluctant when we ask for before and after pictures! Looking at your pictures I really don't know what to believe any more, because the results look absolutely perfect to me! I feel that it will be the best for a to consult Mr. Collin in London and pay for her surgeries out of our own pockets rather to let any of the hackers over here operate on her! We have not scheduled an appointment yet, but I'll let you know, when we are coming. Guest guest
Don't want to get everybodies hopes down, and I must state I am very inexperienced at this point, but doesn't the outcome of the operations and the amount of operations necessary, also depend on the severity of the BPEI Syndrom, not only on the experiences of the Dr/Mr? I get the idea that less severe cases get best results. Could anyone comment on this? Thanks, Bernice > they waited with me to have the big op because of my small features. they > wanted my face, muscles ect to get bigger . but with my son alnd also my daughter > they said to do it because they had to look so far back to see forward it > would have injured their neck muscles . thats why its done early in some cases > ..... im not sure of other hosp or there doctors but i still believe mr collins > is the best in the world and dont forget doctors all over the world come to > moorfields to learn . need i say more
