Guest guest
I have drafted a letter to the Editors of several newspapers which I intend to send out in about 5 days. I would welcome any suggestions and would also certainly entertain any corrections which any of you feel should be made to any letter I have drafted. When I sit down at a keyboard now, I want to write to another Congressional Rep or to another member of the media. Anyhow, if any of you want to employ the following, please do so and amend it as you see fit: Letter to Chicago Tribune and local newspapers to be sent out June 27 LETTER TO EDITOR Just a matter of days ago, a United States Marine at 29 Palms in California was convicted by a Military Court for refusing to submit to the anthrax vaccination ordered by the Department of Defense (DoD). He was given a bad conduct discharge and 45 days in the Brig. Several more United States Marines are facing a similar charge at 29 Palms, and similar injustices will be meted out by the " esteemed " Military Court trying the cases. Defense Counsel attempted to introduce medical testimony which challenged the faulty assertion of the DoD that the vaccine was safe and effective. If it is determined that the DoD has doctored the vaccine, added an unapproved substance, or otherwise engineered the vaccine in a manner which deviates from the vaccine approved nearly 30 years ago, the administration of the vaccine may be contrary to the law, i.e. illegal. It would therefore follow that the Order of the DoD compelling 2.4 million active duty, Reserve and National Guard personnel to shut their mouths, roll up their sleeves and let someone inject such a compound into their bloodstream would be say, " problematic " ? The Military Court brushed aside the attempts of the Defense to call medical witnesses, saying that the evidence was not relevant. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE???? If history is to tell us anything about the Department of Defense, it speaks volumes of injustices, misstatements of fact, misrepresentations and distortions. One need only look at the recent (1999!) refusal of the DoD to conduct an investigation, as suggested by members of Congress and the General Accounting Office (GAO) into the possible connection of squalene (a compound which may have been added to vaccines by the DoD but which has not, and likely will not ever, receive approval of the Food and Drug Administration) and the onset of Gulf War illnesses suffered by thousands of our veterans. These devoted men and women continue to suffer and languish in VA hospitals and at homes all over the country while the DoD sits idly by and advises Congressional Representatives and the GAO that the DoD wont do any such thing. Meanwhile, the DoD continues to pump vaccine into the arms of our military people without giving even so much as a nod to the voices of competent medical critics of the program or to the handful of Congressional Representatives who have asked the Dept of Defense to suspend the vaccine immunization program pending a full inquiry. Without disparaging the relatively few Congressional Representatives who are interested and doing what they can about this madness, it appears as if a majority in Congress dont have a clue about the issues. In response to specific inquiries about the meaningful evidence standing in opposition to the DoD policy, some Congressional Representatives mumble statements as though they are trying out for a stage production written and directed by Pentagon officials. The Marines at 29 Palms in California have medical evidence which strongly suggests that the anthrax vaccine WILL NOT WORK, nor is the vaccine as safe as suggested by the DoD. Yet the officers presiding over the military trials, about as familiar with justice as Judge Roy Bean, refuse to allow the defendants any means to seriously challenge the legality of the Order of the DoD. Tulane Medical School studies, the studies of Dr. Asa in Tennessee, Dr. Nass of Maine, and the gaping lack of any significant study which justifies use of this vaccine is hardly something to sweep under the rug. And yet the Military Courts are doing just that, and punishing the personnel who have shown considerable fortitude in saying " NO " to the vaccine. The next time you see a politician waving a flag, riding in a limousine down Main Street for the 4th of July Parade, dedicating a Veterans Memorial, or otherwise smiling for the camera to generate some political good will, ask the very same gents and ladies of our government what their position is on the vaccine.n Ask them if they have any knowledge of the Marines at 29 Palms. Ask them if they have any knowledge of the workings of Representative Shays who is conducting hearings presently in Congress on Anthrax, Squalene, Gulf War Illnesses. and an number of other related issues. In fact, ASK THEM IF THEY EVEN CARE! And the next time you watch " Yankee Doodle Dandy " and smile at Cagney's portrayal of M. Cohan, ask yourself whether you have done anything to puit a stop to the indifferent and possibly, harmful policy of the DoD. The men and women who protect and serve this Country and enable you to take a stroll down the street or to the ice cream store without fear of a land mine going off, deserve our support. Write to your Congressional Representatives and ask them to support suspension of the Anthrax Vaccine Immunization Program until answers are provided to the questions raised by the civilian medical critics and the number of people who have seriously challenged the Government program. Happy 4th of July!.
