Guest guest
Hello again - gee, i`ve been busy tonite!! How great to hear from a teacher who had some good comments about how to handle the school situation - see message 823 from Antoinette Irwin. thankyou, Antoinette!! I agree, talk lots to your child about their eyes but also all their other great attributes, beautiful smile, great sharing/caring nature, fantastic at singing etc etc etc!! Encouraging other children, who are staring etc to play with your child or share a toy are some other ideas for showing the `starees` (such a word?) that your child is perfectly ok in other ways. How about asking `Would you like to hear a story with us?` & have a childs storybook available. Probably are some around that deal with this issue of someone looking a bit different. The worse thing for me also, was not knowing what was wrong with me when I got the comments, questions, stares as I was growing up except to say `I was born this way`. Didn`t really help much at the time, especially as I was the only child of 7, who had bpes. All the others are reknowned for their big beautiful blue or brown eyes!! How nice to know now, that its got a name, & I`m an oldie in the group at 47! (almost) Was not given any `tools ` to deal with it myself so I think I resorted to comments like `Well, you`ve got a big nose!` when I got `You`ve got little eyes`, & also punching their lights out. I don`t recommend these ideas though! Having to deal with this condition as a child & teen really does give you a strength later in life & a heart for those who suffer by being diferent. You also learn to be very tolerant. I do feel for you younger parents with bleph children, but not yourselves, as you can`t really identify with their feelings but you all so obviously LOVE your kids to bits & that is what will get them through the tough times. Anyway, thats me for tonite - time for bed at 1.00a.m. Bye & God Bless Maree
