about patching

Someone was asking about patching experience? My (now 17yrs)

had total occlusion of the right eye (left amblyopia) for a trial

period of 2 weeks at age 4 & a half years. (I think we did it in the

holidays so she was at home most of the time - saves unnecessary

questions etc!) It improved her vision substantially from 6/24 to

6/12 in that 2 weeks. She then went on to maintenamce occlusion of 2

hours daily for 3 months with no backsliding! (an hour before school

& an hour after school) I think then maybe she patched one day a week

for a time & she held onto the vision gained. Personally, I think the

patching was worth it, hard before the age of 3 but definitely needs

to be done before the age of 7years.

She now still has a weaker left eye, as I do, & needs to wear glasses

for driving etc.
