Guest guest
Our daugther, who just turned seven this week recently completed the three surgeries for BPES. She was diagnosised with this syndrome at a 6 months and we had to hold off on surgery until age 4 at which time she had the slings created to hold open her eyelids.(This was the most difficult proceedure of the three). She had a second surgery at 5 and her final surgery was completed at age 6,December of 2003. For those parents who are considering surgery our experience was positive. Although it was difficult to explain to our daugther why she was having surgery, and the days immediately following the surgeries were hard, she recovered amazingly quickly and is doing quite well now. Here eyes are beautiful, she sees well and she feels good about herself. The only on-going need is that she will have to use eye ointment every night to keep her cornea moist and she is so used to this now it's like brushing her teeth at night. She our little hero!!!! I want to let families who recently had a child diagnosised with BPES or families that are preparing for surgery to know that it is worth all stress. I will locate some before and after photos for each surgery and share them with the group. Our surgeon is AMAZING and all three surgeries were completed through the Kellogg Eye Center in Ann Arbor,MI.
