Guest guest
Hi Robin When I was 18 I had an operation where skin was taken from behind my ear and used for my eyelids. It was partly to repair a small problem which was created when I had an operation at age 12. But that was a long time ago! I think that each case is so different that I am not sure how you can draw on my experience. If you have any more questions I would be happy to help. Has anyone had skin graphs done for their eye lids. I have never heard anyone talk about this and I was wondering. My son Devin hashad the skin graphs done to make him eyelids. The skin was taking from the back of his ears. You cant even see the scar from the back of his ears. He has also had the slings done. i have posted a picture of Devin on the site, its not a close up on his face. I will be posting one up there very soon. I think you mean skin grafts? (Sorry to be a pedant, but it's best to get the term right, in case one needs to ask a medico about it) Sometimes skin grafts are used externally where there is scarring after BPEI/BPES surgery, to repair the scarring. I might have had some of these, but I can't remember. Grafts are also used internally to thicken or stiffen eyelids, where the thinness of a lid (common with BPEI/BPES) is causing entroption (lid bending inwards) or ectropion (outwards). This is either skin from behind the ear or more often from the palate (roof of the mouth - ouch!). There are probably other reasons for BPES-related grafting. (The fascia-lata sling is also a type of graft, but not skin). Rob
