An observational trial was performed after the anthrax letter attacks.

A total of 30,000 people were thought to have been potentially exposed

and were offered antibiotics and vaccine. 10,000 plus took antibiotics

and 199 took 3 doses of vaccine as well post exposure.

None of them came down with anthrax. Thus rapid antibiotic use was

associated with 100% disease prevention, and vaccination confirmed no

additional benefit.
