Guest guest
Glad to hear that is doing well post surgery:) Ethan has never had the head up posture! He only raises his eyebrows-forehead, he runs around like there is nothing up with his eyes:) Had a question for anyone though, when they do the surgery to open the eyes wider (ptosis lift), how do they make the opening of the eye bigger without cutting either corner, or do they? We lift Ethans top eyelid and it hardly makes a difference in the opening looking bigger as his skin is so tight and narrow. It seems that you would have to cut somewhere to make it open up more? -- blepharophimosis New Picture Hi, Everyone!I posted a new picture of . He is now 3 months post canthoplexy & canthoplasty surgeries to address his epicanthal folds. He's doinggreat! He's still red in the corner & the surgeon said he'll remainred for another few months. 's eyes have gone from 19 to 24millimeters wide each. An unexpected positive result from surgery ishe is seeing so much better that he no longer has to tilt his headback to see the world! Another benefit for me is I get to finally seehis beautiful blue eyes! But we can also see that his eyes areturning in a lot. More about that later.Sari

The operations to make the eye openings wider (from side to side) are different from the operations to enable the eyes to open wider (from top to bottom). The ptosis lift operation is for the latter - to help the eyes to open wider, but without making the eye openings themselves any bigger from left to right. The telecanthus/blepharophimosis repair makes the eye openings wider by (usually) extending the inner corner closer to the nose. Whether before or after (or at the same time as) the ptosis repair will vary from person to person. Sometimes the ptosis repair is done both before *and* after (2nd go) the blepharophimosis repair. Sometimes the epicanthus inversus repair is done along with the blepharophimosis repair. > We lift Ethans top eyelid and it hardly makes > a difference in the opening looking bigger as his skin is so tight and > narrow. Yes, usually the inner corners are extended, assuming the blepharophimosis (small openings - left to right) is due to telecanthus (inner corners too far from nose). Blepharophimosis due to the outer corners being too close (I'm sure there's a fancy name for it) are relatively rare, methinks? Rob
Guest guest
had the canthoplexy & canthoplasty surgery to widen his eyes, in preparation for ptosis repair in the future. Our surgeon does not like to do them both together, but does, if no other complications, canthos first & ptosis 6 months later to see how everything healed. will wait a little longer for ptosis repair because he's not big enough for them to harvest muscle tissue from his thigh yet. Positive side effect: his eyes are now more open as well as wider. Sari > Glad to hear that is doing well post surgery:) Ethan has never had the > head up posture!
