Guest guest
Annette -Are there photos of Josh in the group photo albums? I was going to go and look. Micah's left eye didn't seem like it was as open as the other one right after surgery either, but it is less noticeable now that all of the swelling is gone. Are you in the U.S.? (Sorry, I'm losing track of who is who. LOL!) Nina - I too an interested to know what the doctor meant by " slings don't last very long at that age " . When we took Micah in the the doctor they told us he wouldn't require any more surgeries unless the ptosis returned and then they would just go in and " tighten the knot " on the slings. If anyone out there has experience with that one I would love to hear your story. Guest guest
Hi April, What the doctor said was experience has shown that donor fascia slings do not last very long though some do and that fascia from the patient does better. I was told by Dr. Katowitz not to expect this to be her only surgery. That the likelyhood would be she would need another one at some time. I sort of knew that going in but i was not anticipating to have to correct the first surgery. thanks Nina > Annette -Are there photos of Josh in the group photo > albums? I was going to go and look. Guest guest
Thanks for the info, Nina. Micah's slings were done with silicone rods. Does anyone else have those? I guess what the surgeon here said now makes sense. He told me the silicone lasts longer than the fascia. Maybe he meant in patients this age. (Micah is 3.) I was looking at Micah tonight. His eyes are not exactly the same. But he is so gorgeous no one notices. LOL! (Yes, mommy is biased.) :)April --- nma420@... wrote: > Hi April, > > What the doctor said was experience has shown that > donor fascia slings do not last very long though > some do and that fascia from the patient does > better. Guest guest
I tried to upload some photos and now I'm getting an error message so I can't check to see if I was successful. I am computer challenged so I probably crashed the whole system. FWIW, my donor fascia lata is still going strong after 37 years. Maybe I'm one of the lucky ones. Rob
Guest guest
I'm hoping is one of the lucjy ones and she doesn't need to redo her sling operation. nina > nma420@... wrote: > > Hi April, > > > > What the doctor said was experience has shown that donor fascia > > slings do not last very long though some do and that fascia from the > > patient does better. > > FWIW, my donor fascia lata is still going strong after 37 years. Guest guest
My daughter Gwyneth had (has) one eye larger than the other. She wore an eye patch before and after the surgery which was for about 3 hrs a day for 2 years. It is only slightly noticeable now.
Guest guest
Hi I am 34 and I don't have slings, I had the muscle " tightened " in my lids because my ptosis was not as severe and possibly in 1971 that was the procedure my Dr. preferred. I did have one done over because of infection, and since I had my daughter last year, I notice my right eyelid looks lower. But roughly 30 years this has lasted. I use my forehead muscles like crazy and they are fatigued, though. My 12 month old had slings put in twice by the time she was 6 months old, the first time she had an infection. Her situation was different than mine, she could not open her eyes at all. She appears to use her forehead muscles completely to open her eyes. this worries me because I don't want her little temples to work so much... What the doctors cannot factor in, the strength the children gain as they grow. Lily's eyes are opening more than ever, because she is a busy 12 month old taking in the world from new views (on her feet, climbing the stairs, etc) She will have the ptosis surgery again someday but I don't think about it right now. If you look around, people who don't have ptosis don't have absolute symmetry in their faces, either. Of course, you don't want an obvious difference. Lily was under anesthesia 4 times, at 6 wks old, 8 wks old 5 months old and 6 months old. She did great, I, on the other hand, still haven't fully recovered. Best wishes to you BEth > > > Hi April, > > > > > > What the doctor said was experience has shown that donor fascia > > > slings do not last very long though some do and that fascia from the > > > patient does better. > > > > FWIW, my donor fascia lata is still going strong after 37 years.
