1.  MAKE POST TO THE STORIES That we worked hard to get covered.

Okay here are more lumped all together.

We need everyone working together and making posts/comments.  Vets tell them

what life has been like for 17yr...delayed claims...surgeries. ..having to go to

civilian drs and not having money to pay,,,your dental problems whatever...also

the effect on your family.

Family please also post.

Then all spread these to other vets that you know and family members.

VN vets have at it too!.

This is the time to make a difference hopefully nothing will take focus away but

blog anyway...the reporters are waiting to hear you as is America and the time

is urgent with a Transition to new president... let them hear you!

Ask Americans to respond and support with their voices and letters to the new

president elect!

It is up to each of you now to make the difference the groundwork has been laid

for all of you to lend your voices now.

Dont let this opportunity slip by us again!

Ask for research to find biomarkers, the best diagnostics and treatment trials

because bluntly we need that.  Ask for speciality VA centers in your areas.  ASk

for University Medical Schools to get involved.  Ask for the proactive can do to

make a difference it is real damage in a physical sense and we need honesty and

help and full attitude adjustment!

CNN wants I reports so videotape and load if you can go to CNN ireports.

Thanks

Make it happen

Justice delayed: acknowledging the reality of Gulf War illness

Original TextThe Lancet

Combat in the first war in the Persian Gulf lasted only a few weeks. But for

more than 174 000 US veterans and 6000—12 000 UK soldiers, its effects have

never ended. More than 17 years after the 1990—91 invasion of Kuwait, a

Congressionally mandated group has concluded that Gulf War syndrome is a real,

serious, and, in many cases, deadly illness.

The Research Advisory Committee on Gulf War Veterans' Illnesses, with support

from the Boston University School of Public Health, issued a 450-page report on

Nov 17. The report repudiates previous determinations that Gulf War illness is

fictitious, a psychiatric disorder, or stress-related. Ironically, the report

found that these veterans actually have lower rates of post-traumatic stress

disorder than veterans of other wars.

Gulf War veterans have long complained of cognitive problems, headaches, fatigue

and pain, and chronic digestive, respiratory, and skin disorders. And they have

been found in previous studies to have significantly higher rates than other

veterans of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and of brain cancer. The constellation

of symptoms has now been attributed to two agents: pesticides and pyridostigmine

bromide, a drug approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for military

combat use only, against exposure to the nerve agent Soman. Pyridostigmine

bromide was first approved for treatment of myasthenia gravis in 1955 but has

never been tested in human beings against nerve agents. The committee further

noted that exposure to other agents, notably smoke from oil-well fires and other

neurotoxic chemicals, might also have some role in the illness.

This report will come as bittersweet relief to ill Gulf War veterans. It will

need to be integrated into the existing knowledge we have about Gulf War

illness. Further research is obviously necessary, for these and future veterans.

But more immediately, expanded programmes of care, support, and compensation are

the least that is now owed to those whose short tenure of service to their

country turned into lifelong disability.

For some of the nearly 700,000 veterans who fought in the 100-hour Gulf War in

1991, there may finally be some vindication and, we hope, an effort by the

government to address and treat the mysterious illnesses that have plagued about

one-quarter of those who answered the call to serve.

When soldiers and Marines returned from the Gulf War 17 years ago with blurred

vision, rashes and headaches, they were told it was all in their minds, a

diagnosis inconsistent with their symptoms.

But for the better part of the last two decades, the problems for many have

become exasperated - in some cases debilitating - with symptoms such as

persistent memory and concentration problems, more severe and constant

headaches, head-to-toes pain in joints and muscles, gastrointestinal problems,

and other chronic abnormalities that did not fit in with any known diag
