CAT scans use X-ray (?) 'slices' to build a 3 dimensional view. I had

some X-rays before my surgery about 40 years ago (we had no CAT in those

days). My mother thought it was so the surgeon can work out where the

new inner canthi ought to be, relative to the bone structure (socket),

check measurements, gauge symmetry, etc.
