Everyone that has been affected with BPES in my family does produce tears. My oldest son was born with blocked tear ducts, but that was something unrelated to BPES.

Hi Pam,

My son Brock has never had tears either, and yes our doctors told us it is associated with bpes. Kimobriengroup@... wrote:

Hi Pam my daughter never produced tears she is 1. The other day I noticed she had tears after she was crying. That was the first time. I never thought it was a big deal. I thought it was associated with BPES. I will have to ask her doctor the next time we see him. The few tears she had were almost not even noticable.

When my kids were infants they didnt cry tears but that was because of the structure of their eyes ....it just didnt come out ..now they do ....but then at 10 & 13 yrs old i never ever see them cry...so i assume they still do lol obriengroup@... wrote:

I'm pretty sure I've had tears all my life. I'm 31 now, and still

have BPES (no surgeries yet)

Dear Pam

Kenley has never produced tears. They first thought it was because her tear ducks were blocked. They discovered she had no tear ducks. They went in and made her tear ducks out of plastic tubing. However, while it did stop many of the infecitons she still does not produce tears. I am not sure if this is related to BPES due to the fact her dr knows little about the condition. He is sure it is related to the probs with her eyes. obriengroup@... wrote:

My son didn't produce tears when he cried either, when he was young. His

eyes got dry sometimes on windy days, needing lubricating drops of some

sort (usually PolyTears).

He might still not, but he doesn't cry much these days (he's going on

13). Hang on, I'll go and find out... no, wait, I'd better not; he's

getting so tall he might make ME cry. ;-)

My son does not produce tears either, sometimes one will roll down his cheek, but not very often. I believe it is common in BPES because I have heard so many other people say the same about their kids.obriengroup@... wrote:

My daughter had a few infections in her eyes as an infant because she

had blocked tear ducts. Her eyes always looked watery Now at three we

tell her she sheds croccodile tears.

Really strange. Anyway the doctor said since tears are drying, it is actually a good thing. Our daughter is three. I had her tested and they say she has tears but they are draining out the nose.

Thanks,

Pam

Kenley had very dry eyes as well and they say that is what made the infections show up so often. Please keep kenley in your prayers. Her dr sent all of her info to a dr in st louis today to see if he will either see her or call him to help us out obriengroup@... wrote:

  • 8 months later...

a 10 year old boy said kind of snottily, "you have little eyes", she remarked back, "thank you"! I was so proud of her. God bless you, Terry WAY TO GO ! i can;t stay when kids or anyone does that ...guessing they don;t know any better ! uugggggg! Glad she handled it Terry Helgestad <terryahelge@...> wrote: Hi, a ~ No, my daughter doesn't have chronic dry eye. She has normal tear ducts, but because of the shape of her lower lids the tears stay inside apparently. I just remember awhile ago about families talking about really red eyes when their kids went swimming. Yes, I remember with these two really red eyes, but it didn't stop her from having fun in the water. The other day we were decorating our church for

Christmas and a 10 year old boy said kind of snottily, "you have little eyes", she remarked back, "thank you"! I was so proud of her.
