Thanks so much for asking about 's surgery, Leanne! It went fine.

They did several things during the surgery...Last year she had skin grafts added to the area under her lower lid (where you get black circles when you are tired) because she didn't have enough skin and so it kept pulling her lower lids away from her eyeball. During this month's surgery, they did a " W " incision, basically a zig-zag pattern along the margin where the skin grafts attach to her cheeks. This was to reduce the prominence of the " line " created by the graft, and help the incision scar blend in more with her face. Also, when the skin graft on the right shrunk (which they do), the lower lashes were then pointing inward and poking her in the eye! The surgeon fixed that as well. And last, they did a ptosis sling using fascia from a donor. This was done a year or two ago, but the left was quite low so they redid it. They may need to raise the right one as well, but he wanted to wait and see if the right raised back up once the lower lashes were out. 's surgical correction is a little more complicated than some because her skin is quite tight due to a shortage of skin around the eyes which can accompany blepharophimosis. Because of this shortage of skin more eye is exposed, so they are pretty cautious about raising it too high. They can raise it higher now that she has more coverage on the bottom since she got the skin grafts.

Surgery is the pits for ...she gets so sick! We are wondering if she's allergic to the anesthesia. Best thing about it -- it's over! :) On the upside, it's really cool to walk into a room and see her eyeballs looking back at me! :) And, she is in very good spirits. The girl absolutely amazes me. I could see through the window of dance class a girl asking her what happened, and I could tell what she said. explained simply, " You know how my eyes were small? They fixed that. " And she went on to have a wonderful time dancing and laughing with the other girls. I am so proud of her.

Thanks again for asking! Dawn (Washington State, USA)

Hi Dawn,

Thats so awesome that is feeling better now:) I have never heard of the skin tightness?

So was this her last surgery, will she be having any more procedures? Is the only one with bleph in your family?

So you are from Washington State ha? I am in New-Zealand, but lived in Hawaii for 9 years, and Washington State (Whidbey Island) for 5 months, my mums husband was in the US Navy and we were stationed there....it's beautiful! A lot like NZ actually, with the landscaping... sights etc. I miss driving to Mount Vernon, and going to Cascade Mall:) Our malls in NZ are nothing ccompared to the malls in the states! I REALLY miss them:) As a girl would...love to shop:) Where do you live?

Talk soon...have a great day.....:)
