Hi and Bob,

Hey, its leanne in CHCH, How are you all doing? Just wondering how Alyssa is doing? I was just reading through some of the e-mails I had saved, and you had said about Alyssa having her epicanthal surgery? How is she doing a few months later? are you happy with the results? Do you notice a difference in her? would love to see a photo of her, havn't seen any since she was a newborn:) We hope shes doing great!

Ethan saw the Dr for his 2 year check up and said he will see him when he is 3, and that surgery want be done til he is about 4-5 years old, he doesn't have any problems with his eye sight, so as long as thats all good, we'll just take it year by year, unless we notice anything changing of course!

He runs around like there is nothing wrong with his eyes at all, never adopted the head-up posture at all, looks straight ahead....and gosh he needs to get quicker having his 6 year old brother chasing him around!!! poor baby:)

Anyways, let us know how Alyssa is doing? and please send some pix of her, will attach some recent ones of Ethan for you....talk soon...

Leanne and family:)

Hi Leanne, yes this is Aly's 1st surgery. She will be 2 in early December just a couple of months older than Ethan. The surgery is permanent and involved cutting from the corners of her eyes toward her nose (each side) to 'open' her eyes horizontally. We were told by her sugeon that this surgery is preferred to be done before the 'sling' surgery.

I will most definately post pic's soon when I'm able.

RE: blepharophimosis Alyssa post surgery update

Congratulations on the success! Hope everything for you continues to go so well!

Alyssa has finally had surgery and it went great! She had bilateral Medial Canthoplaste (sp?)

She is only 5 days post op, and we are really pleased with how good she looks. An obvious credit to her surgeon! It doesn't appear to be bothering her much....perhaps more itchy than anything we think! She slept for 2 hours after surgery and woke up her happy self. We've found that she will rub the stitches a little but haven't had any problems. Shes had a couple of nights broken sleep but not particularly unusual for her sleeping habits anyway.

We have pictures which I will post soon if anyone is interested. We've seen her surgeon today for her post-op and have been reassured that it is healing good. It is such a relief to be on the 'other side' of surgery. It was a very long 1 1/2 hours when she was in theatre.
