Guest guest
Yes, Dr. Katowitz is one of the top. We met with him. We ended up going with one of his colleagues Dr. in Utah, another senior member of the community. Also, we met with Dr. Collin in London. Dr. Collin went to school with Dr. and also recommended him to us, since we are in the US. Which made us feel more confident about our decision. Guest guest
Beth, Taken out of the context of our conversation, Dr. Sherman's comment may sound negative, but I didn't take it that way. I think he was trying to express that the kids can look better after surgery, but it is very difficult to get symetric results and they will never look 100% normal. Josh also had a severe case that restricted his vision. He can see now, but still tilts his head quite a bit, which is not the optimal outcome. Annette --https://home.comcast.net/~agarrett00/ -------------- Original message -------------- I am sorry to intrude but this comment from your doctor shocked me, "no one is ever happy with the outcome". That seems very negative from someone who is being entrusted with the well-being of a child. I also have to say, many people (including me) focus too much on what the young children look like. For some with mild BPES, it may only be an issue of cosmetics, but for others like me and my daughter, we couldn't see before surgery. >> Kim,> Who did you see in Atlanta? Dr. Sherman discussed Rowan's case generically. I knew who he was talking about, but he wouldn't give names of course. He did say that no one is ever happy with the outcome. It never looks great. Guest guest
Beth: Dr. Sherman, a pediatric ophthalmologist, has made the same comment to us a couple of times, but he was actually relaying to us what oculoplastic surgeons have told him about outcomes of the sling surgery for BPES patients specifically. And frankly I told him it just wasn't true in most cases. Most parents care more that their children's vision is not compromised more than their appearance. I'm sure some surgeons come into contact with a few parents who may not be easily satisfied and might expect a perfect outcome. The parents and folks I've heard from on this web-site don't seem to fit that description!! In our case the surgeon, whom we really like, admits there's a undercorrection on the right eye, but there's some debate as to whether or not it's enough of an undercorrection to go back and re-do. I keep going back and forth and haven't decided yet whether or not we should have the right eyelid operated on again. Guest guest
Dr. performed Gwyneth's initial sling surgery at 9 months, then the epicanthal fold at 3 years, then a touch up / clean up of the fold and a slight extension to the outside of the eyes at 3 3/4 years. Gwyneth had a very severe case.
Guest guest
Dr. Katowitz is very well known, but I can only comment on Dr. , because he did my daughter's surgeries. We are very happy so far. I also know Dr. Olitsky. I met him when my daughter was born in Buffalo, where he used to practice. Pam

Guest guest
Hi hope you don't mind my comments... had surgery with Dr. Katowitz this past August. The outcome though good did not produce symetrical eyes. At first it was somewhat disturbing to look at but over time the results have softened making the difference less noticeable. Dr. Olitsky (in kansas?) is a family friend who did tell me that getting " perfect " results in ptosis surgery is very difficult in a sleeping child that is laying down. Dr. Katowitz did recognize the difference and said we will have to wait and see if we should do a correction. We think we will just wait to see if she needs surgery in the future. With that being said, CHOP made the experience much easier to deal with. Best, Nina Asadoorian Dr. Katowitz out of Children's Hospital of Philly. Ring a bell? Guest guest
Hi Pam, I am not sure if you are asking me but if you were, had both ptosis and epicanthus surgery at the same time. They also created a crease in her lids. she definetly has an easier time looking up. Guest guest
Beth, i couldn't agree more! I am shocked a dr. would say that too ....and by the way ...I couldn;t be happier with the outcome of my boys, beside some scaring ....they can see, their eyes have come along way..they are sooo open now compared to the wAy they were born , and they are beautiful. bethgordon03 <bethgordon03@...> wrote: I am sorry to intrude but this comment from your doctor shocked me, "no one is ever happy with the outcome". Guest guest
Our babies eye dr has said the same thing to us about it being very hard to get both eyes eactly the same...Which blew my mind ...because my sons who totally had 4 lifts always came out even. But Ardiana's didn't as most of you know and her right eye will be redone next Friday. I assume it is very difficult to be a surgeondoing this type of operation, they try their best...I look at it like this ...the are human too. Guest guest
Um, I have to chime in here too. I am THRILLED with my child's outcome after one surgery. I know doctors are humane, but his comment sounded like an excuse. I have a lot more respect for doctors who will say, " This is not what I hoped for either. Let's explore our options. " Praying for you! April --- bethgordon03 <bethgordon03@...> wrote: > I am sorry to intrude but this comment from your > doctor shocked me, > " no one is ever happy with the outcome " .
