Guest guest
Hello everyone, thank you so much for saying all those nice things about Naomi. I wish our children could also enjoy this moral support. Maybe when they are older we could get them to help each other out on the net too : ) I'm glad that people think the tapes are a good idea. Do mention it to your doctors so that other kids with ptosis could consider as a temporary non-invasive solution too. For those of you who are interested, here's the low-down. We started out using Steristrips (3M) and they are great for young babies because they were easy to take off and so gentle on the skin. However, steristrips are costly so we switched to Micropore. It stays on better especially in the water but very slightly less gentle on the skin compared to steristrips. Place the tape (choose a width suitable for your child's lids) just above the eye-lashes and pull upwards till you create a crease on the lid. Better to fold the top of the tape first so that you do not need to scratch to remove it later. I did not remove the tape all the time because I didn't want to keep bothering the eyelid skin. So when Naomi needed to nap, I loosened the tapes and when she awoke I stuck it onto her forehead again. Sometimes I even put a horizontal strip across to secure it so that I don't have to peel off the tape entirely when the top part becomes non-sticky. When I have time I'll scan and replace some of the photos of her on the net now with ones that show this a bit better. Min, I am from Malaysia and Ern is from Singapore. We are both ethnically Chinese. Probably because of that, Ern didn't think much of Naomi's small eyes at first because his are small too, you know...the typical Chinese type (joke at our expense!). However, being a mom I suspected something was not right, so despite him giving me his medical opinion, I sought another. I'm glad we live in Singapore because she was diagnosed that very day I went to the paed opthal. I cried as I taped her eyes for the first time that day. I really didn't want her to see me crying since it would be the first time in her life being able to see me properly. She smiled as the tapes pulled her lids up! So I realised she was happy with the tapes and since then tapes have been part and parcel of our lives. Chloe her older sister who was less than 2 then started to tape all her dollies' eyes! Well, I hope this helps. Do take care everyone and , I'm confident that 's scars will fade with time. Kids rejuvenate so well. She's such a beautiful child! Tell her we are very proud of her for being so brave.
