Hi there,

I remember when our little Ethan was born, he is now 2 1/2. When our first son Tyler when born, he opened his very large blue eyes

straight away and was looking around the room! We were amazed and never forgot that, so of course when Ethan was born we were

expecting the same, but got quite the opposite! He was bigger born by 6 oz's than Tyler, weighing 9 lb 13 oz, and was quite swollen looking,

and never opened his eyes, we were wondering but never thought anything? Our midwife took him away after he was

dressed and told us she was just going to show him off:) Afterwards she told my mum she knew something wasn't quite right with his eyes,

and wanted to try open his eyes. So then he was checked by the pediatrician, and of course was perfect:) He actually was 1 week early!

imagine him weighing more than 9 lb 13 oz! Anyways, with his eyes, he assured us he did have eyes under there:) and that

they were blue grey, and put not opening his eyes down to been swollen from the birth, and to give him a few days! well those days turned

to 1 week and so forth? And finally when he was a few weeks old we were sent to the right Opthalmologist that told us he had bleph.

So apart from those first few weeks from birth seeing Dr's and getting diagnosed, everything has been great, he saw the opthalmologist

every 6 months til he was 2, now once a year, and the visit is always the same, has a look, checks his eyesight, and we are sent on our way

been told he is just fine and that it will be cosmetic surgery on him as his pupils are exposed and he see's just fine, and developing just like

any other 2 year old. So when he is 4-5 we don't know whether he will recommend surgery as so far he thinks it will be cosmetic? We

kind of want a ptosis lift done before he starts school, just because of other kids reactions, but at the same time, we don't want him to

have to have any surgery, because we love him the way he looks now! His face and eyes are so angelic and untouched,

he is sooooo gorgeous:) Of course, if his eye sight was ever to be affected then he would be right in having surgery!

Anyways just wanted to share some insight on our wee guy when were diagnosed with bleph....talk soon.

Hi

My daughter couldn't open her eyes, either, she is now 12 months. No

one noticed, I kept asking the pediatrician and the nurses and they

thought i was crazy, until finally one of the nurses said she did

notice that her eyes never opened. The ped. kept saying your baby is

so beautiful, don't worry. They didn't make me stay in the hospital,

though. I knew she could have it but I wasn't prepared for her to be

completely unable to open her eyes. Her ptosis is severe, her other

symptoms are less. The way I cried when we left made them a little

nervous but I said I was okay. Can I ask where you live? How is your

five year old? Lily has had sling surgery and really is doing great.

I am interested in how you felt during your second pregnancy?

thanks for sharing.
