Guest guest
Dear Nina- I haven’t checked the boards in quite some time but noticed your posting today. I am a former patient of Dr. Katowitz. I am 27years old and had surgeries at age 2, 5 and 10. Dr. Katowitz is excellent!!!!!! I have photos posted on the site if you would like to see the results of my surgeries. Of course, my last surgery was 17 years ago but I would be more than happy to answer any questions you have. Do you live in the Philadelphia area? We have scheduled 's surgery finally(she is almost 3) on August 8th with Dr. Katowitz from Children's Hospital in Philadelphia. i can say I am truly a wreck. I am scared of the unknown, of putting her under and changing what I have grown to love more and more...her face. Has anyone used Dr. Katowitz or heard of him? Is the recovery a struggle? Has anyone not gotten the ptosis part of the surgery and just the epicanthus? We have been told her ptosis is not very severe and that several doctor's suggested not having that part of the surgery. Dr. katowitz suggested doing both. He comes highly recommended by her pediatrician. Any info will be helpful. Thanks According to the papers I've seen, they prefer to fix the bleph & epicanthus inversus first (if ptosis is not too severe) since then it's then easier to fix the ptosis once the eyelid is wider. Otherwise, if they fix the ptosis first, they might have to re-do it after widening the lids, since the wider lid might now be heavier or not supported by the sling all the way across any more. That's why some kids who have an early ptosis repair (for severe ptosis) also have another ptosis adjustment after their bleph/epicanthus repair. Sometimes, just fixing the bleph improves the ptosis a bit, too - or it might make it worse; all the more reason to do ptosis later. Doing the ptosis repair later also gives the repairee's fascia lata more time to become reliable. Of course, if the ptosis is quite mild, it won't need repair at all. Guest guest
Hi Amy- Thanks for your concern. did well in surgery but not so in recovery. She did not come out of the anesthesia well. But since we got home she has been a trooper. I was not expecting her to be so swollen. Her eyes are swollen shut. She looks like a prize fighter. Her uncomfort comes and goes. I know it gets worse before it gets better, so hopefully be tom. we will begin to see improvement. Dr. Katowitz changed his mind when he was in surgery and ended up using a sling. I pray we did the right thing. Thanks again.
