Guest guest
I'm thrilled to hear that the surgery went well - it's going to make such a difference in his world. I'm curious to know if Dr. Lessner talked about the telecanthus and when surgery might be appropriate for Josh. Doctors seem to have differing opinions on the appropriate timing for canthoplastic surgery. Our doc seems to think around 4-5 if you want to do it prior to kindergarten or waiting until 10 -11 years of age so you have a better idea of how his face will shape. Any mention of this yet? He was very angry about not being able to eat this morning and he let everyone in the pre-op area know about it. The surgery took almost 2 hours and he was in some pain when he came out. They gave him a little morphine and he slept the rest of the day, including the 2 hour drive home. Last evening he seemed fine - normal, although he looks like a prize fighter; all swollen, bloody and bruised. Thanks to everyone who offered information and advise. Guest guest
Dr. Lessner doesn't rate real high on bedside manner and communication. He didn't say anything at all about the next surgery, and I didn't ask. I think surgeons become surgeons because they don't like interacting with people. Which is fine with me if the doc is technically excellent. I haven't seen much difference in Josh's reaction to the world. He could always see a little. Probably when the swelling goes down, he'll see more. I wasn't expecting him to not be able to close his eyes. It's weird to see him asleep with his eyes still open a little.
