Guest guest
Anita, I'm 33 yrs old and I have BPES, as do 2 of my 3 sons. I have not had any test to see what type i am. I have however not had a menstrual cycle in almost a year. Not sure if it would be considered POF, but thought i would share. I have never had a regular cycle, but the most i ever went between cycles was about 4 months. I'm not even sure what the signs of POF are. Guest guest
Hi Thanks for the reply. I started to have trouble with my cycle last year (I was always regular as clockwork before then), and because I knew of the link between BPES and POF I contacted the genetics clinic. They did a blood test to see what my FSH levels were. FSH is the hormone that stimulates the ovaries and if this is high it means that your ovaries are 'in decline' which is what happens during the menopause. If you've not had a cycle in a year it certainly sounds like you need to get a blood test. It may not be POF but something else entirely. There are lots of things which can affect the cycle but the blood test is the starting point. Having the menopause early can mean you are at risk of osteoporosis (the bones becoming brittle) and taking HRT can help with this. I really hope I haven't worried you with all this information but it might be worth a visit to the doctor just to get checked out. Let me know how you get on.
