Guest guest
Dear Sue, I don't know what to believe right now ... AAP is also advising to vaccinate children, so are they right in saying Tegretol is safe for nursing infants ? Have you the refernces of articles on this subject ? I have tried a research on Medscape, and found articles for and articles against, so this leaves me with a big question mark instead of a head ! Guest guest
Dear Cecile, Give me a few hours and I'll see what I can come up with. I understand perfectly where you are coming from on this and to be honest, I would feel the same. I also feel that there is a huge hazard to formula feeding, as you've probably guessed! ) Anyway, I subscribe to a list for lactation consultants and breastfeeding counsellors so I will go away and do some hunting for you. Give me a bit of leeway, and I'll get whatever I can for you. Would you or Sheri prefer for me to take this off-group or is there enough " public interest " to keep in on group? I understand your concern, but it is not a common thing to start seizures at 29. Guest guest
so does that mean you have a medical exemption? Kathy .. My brother's epilepsy has been one of the major reasons i have been afraid to vaccinate - the dtp insert states taht if there is a history of seizures in the family, you should not use it. kim
Guest guest
Dear Cecile, I have contacted a colleague of mine who may be able to send some references on this my way and will let you know when I hear back. Something that has just struck me - have you been taking this medication right from the time of your first seizure? If so, how come your doctor allowed you to take it during four more pregnancies? Because if he doesn't consider it safe to take while breastfeeding, how can he sanction it during pregnancy? He can't have it both ways...either it's safe in pregnancy *and* lactation, or not safe in either. What goes into you goes into your baby whether it is still in the uterus or at the breast. Guest guest
Dear Sue, Yes, I have been taking Tegretol since April 1990. My doctor does not really consider it is completely safe during pregnancy, but that having seizures during pregnancy is more serious than taking this medication .... About breastfeeding, he was mostly concerned about with drawal symptoms ... and I just found an article saying that breastfeeding was helping reduce these symptoms, since the amount of medication in the milk was less important than in the blood ..
