regarding HIV numbers In India- fooling ourselves

hello everyone,

We will be fooling ourselves if we think the HIV infection has levelled off in

India.

Our data collection is far from satisfactory and we cannot compare ourselves

with the USA. The last one year I have been working in a corporate hospital

where a large number of HIV cases have been diagnosed but never reported to any

agency. Likewise there are umteen number of private hospitals and labs where HIV

is regularly diagnosed but never reported in this city. The numbers that are

projected from this city those of the

Govt Gen Hospital which caters the need of only small fraction of the

population.

I think the story is same all over the country. I dont think many concerned with

this disease visit villages at all where the incidence and prevelence of the

disease is gradually rising.
