Guest guest
Hello, this is a little bit of a tangent, but I was wondering if anyone (who is in the US) watched Grey's Anatomy last night? It's an incredible show and I highly recommend it, but the reason I bring it up is because on last night's show they dealt with a woman who decided to have a preemptive hysterectomy and a mastectomy because breast cancer and ovarian cancer ran in her family - I believe she said her mother, grandmother, and aunt died of it. She ruined her chance of having children (she mentioned having tried to get pregnant) to avoid the possibility of having cancer. Actually, I think she knew she was going to eventually get cancer because she was tested for a gene (I was paying too much attention to Dr. Sheppard -aka McDreamy - and not enough attention to the dialogue). Anyways, I just thought of the similarities between our discussions on here (genetic testing, female fertility) and was wondering if anyone else was making those connections. BPES may be quite rare, but the implications of it aren't necessarily....there are so many reasons that can prevent people from having children. Watching the show also made me grateful that something as serious as cancer isn't associated with BPES. Yes, infertility is a very big issue, but it isn't one that kills you. And as people like April and have shown, adoption is a very wonderful alternative to those who can't conceive. In other news, thanks again to everyone for their warm welcomes. I've only been in this group for about a week, and I'm already really enjoying reading about everyone's stories. Talk to you soon!
