Guest guest
Dear Members, I am a egroup member and have been reading all the interaction with deep interest. I do not particpate very actively. But ocasionaly I have reacted. This time I thought I should. Although I agree that the victim should be priority in care let us not go with the assumption that the rapist can go free and treat just the victim. I don't think any victim will truly feel safe unless she knows that the rapist has been dealt with adequately. There is no other offence where there is so much debate on whether the punishment is considered unproportionate to the crime. Guest guest
Dear Members, In discussions about rape, the issue about men and young boys being raped is almost always omitted. But it does happen, perhaps more often than we would like to know. And perhaps it is more dificult for a man or a young boy to tell police and health professionals, than it is for women. We need to bear this in mind too, when discussing assistance to rape victims. Guest guest
As rightly said by Almedal ,that rape among boys especially children living in the streets and supposedly safe home like orphanages and juvenile homes are victims of rape almost everyday .But as they are vulnerable ,marginalised group of boys with unheard voices they are being ignored . This is all the more dangerous as the chances of getting infected with HIV is very high among this group: Moreover for men its more difficult to admit that they were rape because of ego issue. What about the gay teenager who are raped by older heterosexual men the world over, who listens or pay attention to their grief?, Rape is serious issue and cut across all gender and as such should be tackle alike for both the gender . Guest guest
Dear Manchin, Greetings from Social Welfare Association for Men (SWAM) a Community based and community managed organisation that works towards STI/HIV/AIDS prevention among Men who have Sex with Men (MSM) in the city of Chennai, Tamil Nadu. We totally agree with you, about rape of young boys. We are an organisation that works largely among young gay boys who operate as commercial sex workers. Rape among this section is also becoming a day to day affair. In that Rape by Police Officials who raid the crusing areas. The sad thing.. is that not only the boys are forced to solicit free sex with them in the area they are caught but also forced into anal and oral sex at the police station itself. Since Male to Male Rape among boys is something not considered true in the stern puritanical setup we live in... most of them do not get an opportunity to fight back as none believe them. Many are also raped by local gundas or dadhas. There is also the high risk of the boys contracting the virus during such ordeals. The need of the hour is to establish an advocacy unit that enables those who contact to reach community friendly legal advisors who could help them out.
