Why I Still Insist!

KENYANS HAVE THE ANSWER TO THIS CONTRY and not the ruling

elite

As the smoke settles down after “Post Election

Violence” (please note the quotation marks - That is a discussion in

another note but for today allow me to think aloud why Kenyans are the answers

to the many questions) it dawns to me that this might be a very crucial

time that we as Kenyans have to ask ourselves very hard questions; Who will

stop this so that we do not see it again in future? What went wrong? .. among

other questions.

I stand to be corrected but I believe that Kenyans have left

a very important duty in the hands of a few people and have thus reduced

politics into a cartel. Kenyans have continued to avoid the political process

and have only played roles in this process during elections and that is in

itself sad to say the least. Political parties are just vehicles used by “politicians”

to get to parliament. That might need some review by many of us.

Part of leadership problem in this country will only be

address if Kenyans own up the whole political process and start meaningfully engaging

even in party politics as part of their obligations. Every Kenyan should join a

party of his choice of which he or she agrees with the manifesto, its goals and

objectives, mission and vision. A quick look into the Kenyans politics in the

last few year of our multiparty politics will confirm that people do not belong

to parties for they believe in the vision, mission or objectives of political

parties they vote for but for some personalities and I believe this is part of

the problem now. Political parties are no longer associations with national representation

but regional clubs establish to maintain some political relevance in those

areas its leaders have died politically; that is pathetic friends. In

1992 FORD Asili, DP, FORD Kenya were among the major parties then but where did

the political influence of these parties go. In 2002 NARC was the party,

winning election with a landslide that the party leader of the ruling party had

to concede defeat before the tarrying was finished. It now has only two members

of parliament in the current house. Kenya has now over 140 political parties do

we need all this parties to nurture democracy, are we not duplicating ourselves?

Kenyans, this is our call and we need to make it. We need to

take responsibility of what happens in this land. We are the ones that killed

each other, stole from our neighbors, destroyed buildings we need to

constructively direct that energy in rebuilding this country and taking charge.

We do not need leaders who do things for us we need leaders who can only help

us to maintain the commonality of purpose for the good of this country.

This is why I still insist that the answers are with us and

not with the ruling elite!
