Baby abandoned at the Mortuary.

Greetings to all forum members.

Yesterday a family went to the mortuary to remove a family member. As they were in the mortuary office the mother to the dead daughter excused herself to go for a short call. She was carrying a 4 month baby; she gave the baby to the great grand mother who is 80 years old to carry. These people waited for the whole day for this lady to come back from the toilet but in vain. She left with all the money they were going to use to to remove her daughter from the mortuary.

By evening the old lady carried to abandoned baby to her rural home.

My concern is this

She is old , widowed and not earning anything

She lives 6 km away from a functional health facility.

The child is malnourished

The child may be infected and need care

The child is lacking basic needs like clothes, food to survive

The entire community is disadvantaged.

My immediate reaction is that the baby is to be taken to this health facility this morning for some health care.

My appeal and concern is that we get the basic needs of this baby met in the next few days. We come up with donations to initiate a small health facility to help the community.

There is a retired nurse who can help if we can donate drugs, a few iron sheets to start a dispensary. Or I can look for free grass, timber, land, labour from the community but will need support for the drugs.

The name of the place will be Kandaria Self Community Clinic.

This is where I was born and raised. I now live in this community since the post election violence and it is a real concern to see these people live without health care.

Email inquiries can be sent to me at tomokeyo@...

Otherwise thanks a lot for your response
