VACCINE FOR AIDS TO BE TESTED IN INDIA

Kalpana Jain, The Times of India, 04/11

A potential AIDS vaccine, known as a modified Vaccinia Ankara, MVA,

has been identified for trials in India. The vaccine is supposed to

fight the most prevalent HIV subtype C strain. The process of vaccine

development began through a memorandum of understanding signed by the

Union health ministry and Indian Council of Medical Research with the

New York-based International AIDS Vaccine Initiative. It is being

brought into India during its transitional period of development and

refined for the Indian HIV strain at the National AIDS Research

Institute (NARI).
